We Need Volunteers!
Magdalena House Clean-Up, Castolon Historic District
A wildfire on May 22, 2019, left damaged and destroyed historic buildings. Our awesome fire crews around the region helped prevent loss to other historic buildings such as the Magdalena house. The Magdalena house needs a post-fire cleanup in preparation for new exhibit installation. Volunteers will help wash and clean walls and windows, and repair porch screening. Work will start at 8:00 am in the Castolon Historic District on September 14, 2019. The park will provide tools, work gloves, water, and snacks. Please RSVP via email by September 4, 2019, to Taylor Jurado at christine_jurado@nps.gov.

Tip of the Week!
All Energies’ tip of the week: Running your off grid solar system at the optimal voltage can save you money on wire and equipment! Most off grid solar systems are set up for 12, 24, or 48 Volts. If your solar array is small (about 1000 Watts or less) a 12V system is probably the best and least expensive option. Larger arrays are usually better suited to a 48V system. Why? Because Voltage and Current (measured in Amps) have an inverse relationship (Ohm’s Law); and because high amperage requires bigger wire sizes, as well as more (or bigger) charge controllers. To lower the number of Amps flowing through the system, you can set up your batteries and equipment for a higher voltage. This will allow you to use smaller wire and fewer charge controllers (or a charge controller with a lower Amp rating). If you need help making your solar system work better, email casey@allenergies.net or call/text 432-242-1874.

A Call for Your Help
The Brewster County Sheriff’s Office is seeking your help to curtail financial scams.  There has been an increase in telephone scams targeting elderly individuals, requesting payment to government entities, using gift cards.  REMEMBER, NO GOVERNMENT ENTITY WILL ACCEPT PAYMENT BY GIFT CARD.
Periodically, we post warnings, through social media, about scams, but people continue to be victimized by these criminals.  So, we need your help. Please spread the word to family members, friends, and neighbors, to contact us BEFORE purchasing gift cards, money orders, etc. that are being purchased under suspicious circumstances.
Please help us educate the community (remember, not everyone uses social media) so that we may better serve our citizens.  Thank you!

Stillwell & 4L
We’ve had quite a few changes here at the 4L and wanted to fill y’all in. The ranch portion of the Stillwell property has sold. This means that the majority of what was the primitive area and rock hunting area is now inaccessible. We DO still have tent camping spaces they are just not where they were previously. We do NOT have any rock hunting any longer. We realize how disappointing this is to so many of you and are sorry for that. The store, RV park and museum are still operating as normal. The store, museum and RV park are still under the same ownership and management, any reservations you’ve made previously for future dates are still good. Give us a call or send us an email with any questions. (432) 376-2244.

Uh Clem
Now that Uh Clem is settled in his new digs, let’s all let him know that we are thinking about him. I spoke with Susan and she agreed that post cards and letters would be wonderful! Not just once, either ... but a lot for as long as they are needed.
No need to spend $ either. Just make something silly and write something from your heart. God knows Clem is not one to condone spending $ foolishly.

All Energies tip of the week: solar racking systems make mounting panels a breeze! Solar panels can be roof mounted or ground mounted. Mounting to your roof is usually the easiest & most cost effective option. Solar panels on your roof can also shade your roof and lower temps inside your house. There should be a 2" or greater gap between your panels & roof to help keep them cool. We've been using Iron Ridge aluminum racking for years with zero issues. If you need help making your solar system work better, email casey@allenergies.net or call/text 432-242-1874.

All Energies tip of the week: Batteries have a minimum charge rate, so adding more batteries can actually make your solar system performance WORSE. To find your ideal charging rate, add up the total Amp-hour rating of your battery bank. Your charge rate (the number of Amps coming from the solar array) should be between 10% and 20% of that number. For example, a battery bank rated for 600 Amp-hours at 12 Volts should be charged at 60 to 120 Amps of input. Failure to meet the minimum charge rate will severely reduce the lifespan of your batteries!  If you need help making your solar system work better, email casey@allenergies.net or call/text 432-242-1874

CONGRATULATIONS RICK ARD.  This year’s winner of best head game at Kiva’s Mad Hatter’s party went to Rick.  A few grumblings were overheard from the gallery suggesting the contest may have been rigged – but could such a thing be true??  Lots of famous people were in attendance, including a mysterious musical making DJ moonlighting as the baker, Wild Bill, and *rhymes with* Fairy Culture!  In the end, no one fought Rick to take the title, because he’s too nice and his hat was a nod to Ol’ Penisaurus – a longed tipped *you-know-what* on the tip of his hat.  Next year’s contenders take note!  Special thanks to all the cave dwellers for creating a fun vibe on the hottest day of the year!

ALL ENERGIES TIP OF THE WEEK: Batteries actually GAIN storage capacity in hot weather, but long term exposure to temperatures above 80°F will shorten their lifespan!  The high summer temperatures also reduce peak solar array output, and increase refrigeration load.  If you need help making your solar system work better, email  casey@allenergies.net or call 371-2950.

Come join us for "Ceilly Dee Glamboree" on Sunday, September 15th at the Starlight Theatre. Starting at 6:00 we will kick off the event with music by Butch Hancock, followed by auction items, fashion show, and our Burlesque Troop will perform a tasteful teasing dance.  All proceeds will help our lovely Ceil Drucker as she heals from her accident. She and Bob have been helping our community for years, healing us: our bodies, our souls, so now is the time to give back and help them heal.  So, save the date for a fun filled evening.  If you have an item you would like to donate to the Vintage Fashion show, you can contact Crystal Allbright at Desert Sports, also Chris Dull on Facebook.  Stay tuned, more to come.

BALMORHEA PARK CLOSURE.  Beginning September 3rd, Balmorhea State Park will close for extensive septic system repairs.  Longstanding problems with the West Texas park’s sewerage have left visitors without access to showers in the pool bathhouses since at least last year.  Septic system repairs will keep the park closed for six months with a projected reopening date of March 1, 2020.  In the last year, Balmorhea State Park has partially closed for other repairs, but this marks the first time during that period that the entire park will close.
