TERLINGUA MOON

December 19, 2017
Vol.  28   No.  51

by Million sMiles

"Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story. . .  " ~Max Ehrmann

Those of you who said you'd help volunteer Thursday morning, we won't be making our special run after all. That said, we're sure going to need some help the next few weeks to keep things in good order around the recycling center here in Terlingua. If you're one of our awesome regular volunteers, please keep an eye out. We'll need all hands on deck in early January so, if you're not already a volunteer and would like to help out, please send a Facebook message to Terlingua Recycles or call 830.739.6986 for more info. The River and the WALL
A team of diverse adventurers will embark on an epic 1,200-mile journey down the Rio Grande River and the U.S.-Mexico border to experience the vast landscapes of the borderlands region before construction of a wall. During the horse, mountain bike, and canoe powered journey, they will encounter personal stories from both sides of the border, examine immigration viewpoints across the political spectrum, and explore the impacts to wildlife, landowners, and all who call the borderlands home in the feature documentary THE RIVER AND THE WALL.
The horseback riding portion will be through the southern Trans Pecos mountain region that extends from Presidio, TX to the east side of Big Bend National Park (La Linda). The team is expected to make it to the Terlingua Ghostown onDecember 15th , riding up to the Starlight Theater/Porch at some point in the late afternoon (5 PM ish). Up to this point they will have been in the back country for a couple of weeks ready to see some happy and familiar faces. Come out to the Starlight for beer, laughs and shenanigans but most of all a good ole fun Terlingua night.
We hope to see all of yall on December 15th with a howdy in hand! If there are any changes with the dates and time we will update closer to the date.
Invite everyone and anyone and send off the team properly as they continue their journey the following day.
If you would like to know more about the journey itself click the website provided underneath and follow us on social media to get updates of the trip!

Terlingua Recycles – Thanks to everyone who came out this past Thursday to help with the monthly recycle trip into BBNP. What a great group of volunteers and great to see some new faces and helping hands. WE make this run into the park the last Thursday of every month so would you please make your plans now to meet at the Terlingua Recycling Station behind the Terlingua EMS at 8 a.m. on December 28? We usually get back to Terlingua between 12 and 1. If it looks like we’ll have to make a 2nd run again in December, we’ll keep you posted by way of the Moon and Terlingua Recycles Facebook page. Thanks, too, to those who are making a concerted effort to recycle responsibly. (Just read the signs, it’s pretty simple!) Any questions please send us a Facebook message or call 830.739.6986.

Nuevo Terlingua.  Excited to announce in 1st Q of 2018 we will begin comprehensive recycling at all our properties (better late than never). In addition, we have purchased a glass crusher that turns wine, beer, and Topo Chico bottles into sand that can be used in construction. Specifically, the sand can be used for stucco work (as soon as we solve the logistics etc). We will provide a convenient drop off location for the community to recycle glass. Stay tuned.
