Max is a big, beautiful australian shepherd/border collie mix that was brought into the shelter by a volunteer on 4/24/17. His mild demeanor and happy ways made us sure he would be picked up by his owner, but he was not. Lucky for his new adopter! He will be neutered on 5/4, but applications for his adoption are being accepted. If you have any questions about Max or any other animal in the Alpine Shelter, please email heatherthemule@gmail.com

Terlingua Recycling
Thanks to Dan Sholly, and Alice & Dick Wildermuth who six-handedly took on April's recycling and to Eduardo at Big Bend National Park for taking us on a week early. What a team!
A friendly reminder that we are limited on space and it would help tremendously if you could "crush" your plastic bottles - especially milk and water containers - as well as cans. We're able to accommodate a lot more in the bins that way.
Keep on keepin' on to limit our footprint and to keeping Terlingua GREEN! Questions about volunteering (or recycling in general?) Call 830-739-6986 or send a FB message to Terlingua Recycles.

Terlingua Moon
April 18th, 2017 Volume 28 ~ #16

by South County Mud Clowns

Newton’s 3rd Law:  For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction,                                    (plus a social media overreaction).

Anne Lewis Born June 27, 1940 in Bend, Oregon
Died: Easter Morning April 16, 2017

Esther Annette Culpepper Lewis was preceded in death by her parents:  Hubert M. Culpepper and Esther Denham Culpepper. Anne was their only child. She was raised in Mississippi. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lester in 1999.  She had lived in East Texas where she met Lester and she came to Terlingua with him in January 1994 (thank you Lester).
I never heard her mention his name without adding, “The love of my life.”

Anne is survived by her children: Charles McQuary & wife Patti; Scott McQuary & wife Jennifer. And by Lester’s children: Theo Lewis Smith; Leslie Lewis Torrey; Lester D. Lewis – plus -  many grandchildren & great grandchildren.

Anne’s Christian faith was very strong. She lived her life prepared to go whenever her time came.  A few years ago, she ordered for herself a custom-made, hand-turned wooden urn even before she had become terminally ill. It is gorgeous and so befitting the classy southern lady that was Anne.

Anne loved all music especially our locally grown:  Chris, Ted, Just Us Girls and the like were among her very favorites.  She had a ‘music room’ at her house, where she would record mixes of various artist and genres, and give the tapes away to friends for no particular occasion. Some of us have pieces of Anne’s beautiful hand-made jewelry, which she often gifted for no special reason except that she loved you.

If you knew Anne, she had a positive way of helping you cut through worries, quandaries or problems you might be experiencing – sort of like a guru.  She could also call B S for what it is, and do so in such a logical, down-to-earth manner.  She was so profound in those ways.

Reading the many comments on Face Book from those acquainted with her made me think how loved and cherished
we all should hope to be, in the present and after we are gone.  Posts there were only admiration and love for what
a wonderful woman Anne was and the memories she will forever leave in our hearts.

For selfish reasons, we wish she was still here… and that a gathering of us were out at her place in Gate 4 Valley.
We’d be sitting by her campfire, listening to her wide, wide range of music and the trickle of her outside fountain.
Oh, and likely imbibing Parrot Bay... and laughing... lots of laughing.  But for her sake, let us be happy that she is freed from her illness.  Rest now in peace dear Anne.
