Johnson’s Ranch Presentation at the Cinnabar Theatre January 28th 7:30PM
Through the focal point of the only documented aircraft crash at the ranch in 1932, the slide presentation will focus on the unique personal, cultural, and military aviation histories associated with a truly storied place, now but a remote marker and campsite on the River Road in the National Park. A forgotten photograph of a curious metal assembly found walking the area 17 years ago, leads to a search and rediscovery of the part, and the subsequent tying of it to the specific aircraft and crash. The story of the pilot, who later went on to be a German POW and a Brigadier General in the Air Force, helps illuminate a fascinating tale of survival, perseverance, innovation, and satisfaction in a pivotal era of the Lower Big Bend. A cool tale. BYOB with donations to Last Minute Low Budget Productions; Questions - Todd Bureau (432) 386-7846

Earth & Fire Gallery guest artist for January is MFA Jadene Mayla.
Inspired by the awesome scale and rugged topography of Big Bend National Park, which was recognized by National Geographic as one of its “Best of the World” for 2023 among the 25 Most Extraordinary Places and Communities - see NatGeo.com/BestOfTheWorld - her newest series of manipulated photographs highlights distinctive features this region of far west Texas is known for.
Her goal with this and others in the series is to suggest that the viewer look through different eyes to see the landscape from the perspective of a natural mystic (like her).  The medium and style choice came out of the way that manipulating photography often highlights or brings to the surface atmospheric details and shadows that otherwise tend to take a back seat to the main subjects. In her direct experience of phenomenological events she would describe as 'mystical' if not 'paranormal,' she often perceives the life of a place in the atmosphere created by that force which animates it.

Big Bend Series by Jadene Mayla

Inspired by the awesome scale and rugged topography of Big Bend National Park, which was recognized by National Geographic as one of its “Best of the World” for 2023 among the 25 Most Extraordinary Places and Communities (see NatGeo.com/BestOfTheWorld) these manipulated giclee photographic prints express the way I see the park.  My goal with this and others in the series is to suggest that the viewer look through different eyes to see the natural landscape from the perspective of a natural mystic (like me).

The medium and style choice came out of the way that manipulating photography often highlights or brings to the surface atmospheric details and shadows that otherwise tend to take a back seat to the main subjects.  In my direct experience of phenomenological events I would describe as 'mystical' if not 'paranormal,’ I often perceive the life of a place in the atmosphere created by that force which animates it.

Corba's Last Chorus ‑‑ All Friends, Family and Fans of Corba Jones are invited to "Corba's Last Chorus - A Celebration of a Life Lived Loudly.”  Our family greatly appreciates your prayers, patience and the love you had for the “Lil' General.” We are trying to make plans at the speed at which Dad/Gregg is comfortable, while also giving us to focus on his care and affairs, as well as allowing ourselves to start the grieving process from this life-changing loss.

We also acknowledge how this has affected so many of you.  Our family also extends our condolences for the loss you have also endured.  It is an emotional time for all.

After getting to spend time with all her children together, Corbie was ready to be pain-free and with the Lord.  Corbie will be greatly missed.  Rest assuredly, she went to heaven knowing she was loved by you all and had left one helluva legacy . . . thousands of memories and repeat-worthy stories of a loud woman who lived loudly and loved the loudest.

Whereas we do not yet know all the details of the celebration event, we do know this . . . It will be filled with love, laughter and loud music.

EARTH AND FIRE GALLERY
Join us at the Gallery for a grand party for Guest Artist Jadene Mayla Saturday January 28th starting at dusk.
Big Bend Series by Jadene Mayla
Inspired by the awesome scale and rugged topography of Big Bend National Park, which was recognized by National Geographic as one of its “Best of the World” for 2023 among the 25 Most Extraordinary Places and Communities - see NatGeo.com/BestOfTheWorld these manipulated giclee photographic prints express the way I see the park.
In my direct experience of phenomenological events I would describe as 'mystical' if not 'paranormal,' I often perceive the life of a place in the atmosphere created by that force which animates it.

ADVOCATE FOR CELL SERVICE
Reliable, stable, cellphone services, and the equipment dependent upon it, has become a necessity.
Whether we're full or part time residents, for our guests, and/or for the customers of ours or others businesses. It has become a need.
Yes, need. Especially with respect to emergency or medical services.
In hopes of achieving this...

»Call your cellphone service provider (a list of the four major carriers can be found at the bottom of this page)

Information to share with  cellphone companies

»600,000+ people are visiting the region, every year now, and the numbers will most likely grow. Cellphone service must be dependable.

»Many folks have built homes, and businesses, for now or future retirement. Without reliable cellphone coverage it impedes us achieving our goals as a community.

The various cellphone carriers need to know that south Brewster County is no longer.. empty.
It's a growing, thriving, community with large numbers of visitors every year.
It takes us, working together, to achieve these goals.

»Calling campaigns work

»Ask your customers to get involved in the process

»Calls to cellphone companies, by the hundreds, or more, will make an impression

The following should take the lead on the stabilization, and improvements, for south Brewster County's residents and visitors.

»The Brewster County Commissioners
»Brewster County Tourism Council
»Brewster County Sheriff's Office
»Motels, Air BnBs, and their management
»BBNP & BBRSP authorities
»Others, such as POATRI Board Members

It could also be included in ad campaigns that H.O.T. funds are used for.

Reliable, stable, cellphone coverage should not just be something we wish for.

It should be something that we, and our thousands of visitors, should expect.
