Friends of the Ruidosa Church is excited to announce our second annual Community Day on Saturday, November 5 from 2-7PM. This year the church  will feature artists and performers from both sides of the border. We are honored to present:

An opening dance performance by Matachines de Santa Teresa from Presidio, Texas (2PM)

An adobe community altar by Jacquelin Zazueta from Marfa, Texas @help.ima.rock

Afternoon DJ set by Cariño of the Radio / Jacqueline Del Olmo, from Marfa, Texas

Latido de Luce, an illuminated installation by Miguel Valverde from Chihuahua, Mexico @miguelvalverde

We will also have free food and drinks in the afternoon, along with a special lighting ceremony at dusk / 6PM. For all who came last year, you know it was a rare celebration in a remote location. Visitors came from all over to celebrate both the church and the families historically connected to Ruidosa.

The theme of this year is “el sagrado corazón,” a nod to the original name of the church as well as a motif that naturally emerged across our artists this year.

Thanks to H‑E‑B, Big Bend Bank, TransPecos Bank and Cactus Liquors for sponsoring this event. Thanks also to @naomibensen for contributing the beautiful heart collage featured in this year’s poster.

We are hoping to once again record oral histories from anyone who has a memory or historical connection to Ruidosa. If you’d like, please also bring meaningful objects, candles or photos to contribute to our community altar.

CELEBRATIONS OF LIFE

Robert “Beechie” Beauchamp, owner of Beechie’s Auto Service, passed away Sunday, Oct. 16, in Springtown.  He had been struggling with cancer and had gone to live with his family during the last months of his life.  Beechie’s Celebration of Life will be at 5:00 p.m., November 25, 2022, at the Terlingua Ranch Community Church with dancing (Beechie’s favorite) and dinner @Bad Rabbit Cafe following the service.  Everyone invited.

Robert was born on April 30, 1939, to Herschell Boyd and Juanita Katherine (Bradford) Beauchamp in Wise County. He resided in Wise County before moving to Terlingua in 1992.  He was a member of the Terlingua Church of Christ.  Beechie was an auto mechanic and towing operator by trade.  He operated Beechie’s Auto Service in Terlingua for the past 30 years and Beauchamp’s Garage in Boyd before that.  Beechie always loved everything about cars and racing. He shared his passion for cars with students in auto mechanics at TCJC as an auto mechanics instructor. He was an avid car racing fan and attended many Indy Racing events in Indianapolis, and NASCAR events from Daytona to Texas.  His collection of racing and automotive memorabilia is astounding.

Beechie loved to travel and visited numerous places including Australia and Hawaii. He served his community as a volunteer fireman both in Boyd and Terlingua. He always strived to be the best at his profession, logging many continuing education classes and served as President of the Independent Garagemens  Association.

Beechie was a beloved father, grandfather to 3 generations and brother.  He was preceded in death by his parents. Those left behind to cherish his memory are his son, Rob Beauchamp and wife Stacey; his daughter, Lori Pinson and husband Ken; 7 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Loveta Smith and husband Ronnie; Lacreta Carr and husband Rob; 3 nephews; other relatives and a host of friends.

Dwight Deal passed away on June 11 peacefully in Colorado.  He first came here in 1967 to teach at Sul Ross University. He remained for years and returned for years.  As a geologist, researcher, and educator Dwight thought the Big Bend provided the most enticing and rewarding place to live with the perfect environment to teach geology.  During his years in Alpine, Dwight was also a founding Director of the Chihuahuan Desert Research Institute.  With his wife Sandy, they raised two children in Alpine, but when his wife died, Dwight, as a single parent, moved the family to NM where he worked for 11 years.

Another shift came when Dwight married Mary Fletcher in Denver.  Soon trips to Big Bend started again, and in time a cabin was found for longer stays.  Both have embraced the Terlingua community. Dwight said he enjoyed the best community of friends who gave color, texture, and vibrancy to his world.

His wife, Mary, invites everyone to share memories of good times with Dwight:  Ghostown Monday, November 14 at 4 pm with music and high spirits.  A potluck supper will follow.  Everyone welcomed!  A geologist needs rocks for his new journey, so bring a small rock to add to his stash.

CONDOLENCES
It is with a heavy heart that I tell you my beloved brother Doug Duncan passed away peacefully at his home in Big Bend on Tuesday, October 11 at age 71.  We will sorely miss his sense of humor, his caring nature, and his crazy antics. He always kept us laughing, and he was so talented at such a variety of arts.  He has been with the National Parks as a Ranger for over 30 years, having worked at various Parks acrtoss the country.  He was a graduate of the University of Texas in Arlington. Doug served in the U.S. Navy.  He leaves behind two sisters, Lynda Miles (brother-in-law, Joe Miles), and Stacey Duan, along with nephew, Matt Meinke, and niece, Megan Leach, plus four great nieces and nephews.

He will be sorely missed.  Happy Trails, Doug!!  Until we meet again.....Love.

(A Celebration of life to be announced later.)

Please be prepared to have local references and a working phone number or another way for us to get ahold of you consistently. Currently looking for help on Monday and Tuesday every week. Schedule is flexible based on working it out with the current team. We are looking for some local salsa provider to go along with our new CHARCUTERIE SECTION! Come check it out! We got stocked up on ice creams and some other fun snacks as well. Stop in to say "hi" to our newest additions to the team, Caleb (also a fantastic local musician). Anni, (another awesome musician and resident horse girl) , as well as Bambi! (We just met her but she's pretty great as well!) Hope to see you soon!
