PEA-OFF NEWS
I want to thank this community for another great turnout for the 32nd Annual Pea Off. The funds have been locked up, waiting for the school to re-open - but I can now announce that we raised $4,407 dollars for our Terlingua School Graduate Scholarships. We had excellent weather, fantastic music and a great crowd. Thanks again to all of the sponsors, donations, musicians, judges, cornbread cooks and volunteers; and of course the cooks and visitors..! Inspired by the awesome scale and rugged topography of Big Bend National Park, which was recognized by National Geographic as one of its “Best of the World” for 2023 among the 25 Most Extraordinary Places and Communities - see NatGeo.com/BestOfTheWorld these manipulated giclee photographic prints express the way I see the park. My goal with this and others in the series is to suggest that the viewer look through different eyes to see the natural landscape from the perspective of a natural mystic (like me).
The medium and style choice came out of the way that manipulating photography often highlights or brings to the surface atmospheric details and shadows that otherwise tend to take a back seat to the main subjects. In my direct experience of phenomenological events I would describe as 'mystical' if not 'paranormal,' I often perceive the life of a place in the atmosphere created by that force which animates it.
