CONGRATULATIONS TERLINGUA GRADUATE. Cody Ray Willard, son of Tom and Amanda Willard, graduated Cum Laude from Sam Houston State University on Saturday August 3rd. He graduated with a BS in criminal justice, with a double minor in accounting and general business. Cody graduated as valedictorian from Terlingua High School in May of 2016. Cody will go on to get his master’s degree in business administration next fall.
CONGRATULATIONS RICK ARD. This year’s winner of best head game at Kiva’s Mad Hatter’s party went to Rick. A few grumblings were overheard from the gallery suggesting the contest may have been rigged – but could such a thing be true?? Lots of famous people were in attendance, including a mysterious musical making DJ moonlighting as the baker, Wild Bill, and *rhymes with* Fairy Culture! In the end, no one fought Rick to take the title, because he’s too nice and his hat was a nod to Ol’ Penisaurus – a longed tipped *you-know-what* on the tip of his hat. Next year’s contenders take note! Special thanks to all the cave dwellers for creating a fun vibe on the hottest day of the year!
ALL ENERGIES TIP OF THE WEEK: Batteries actually GAIN storage capacity in hot weather, but long term exposure to temperatures above 80°F will shorten their lifespan! The high summer temperatures also reduce peak solar array output, and increase refrigeration load. If you need help making your solar system work better, email casey@allenergies.net or call 371-2950.
LONGDRAW PIZZA IS CLOSED ALL OF AUGUST.
FULL MOON POTLUCK AT THE PAVILION. August 15th Open Music Circle. Sturgeon Moon: The Full Moon in August is named after North America's largest fish, the lake sturgeon. The Full Moon in August is called Sturgeon Moon because of the great number of this huge freshwater fish that could once be found in lakes and rivers in North America. Other names for this Full Moon include Grain Moon, Green Corn Moon, Fruit Moon, and Barley Moon, all inspired by various crops that can be harvested in August.

Come join us for "Ceilly Dee Glamboree" on Sunday, September 15th at the Starlight Theatre. Starting at 6:00 we will kick off the event with music by Butch Hancock, followed by auction items, fashion show, and our Burlesque Troop will perform a tasteful teasing dance. All proceeds will help our lovely Ceil Drucker as she heals from her accident. She and Bob have been helping our community for years, healing us: our bodies, our souls, so now is the time to give back and help them heal. So, save the date for a fun filled evening. If you have an item you would like to donate to the Vintage Fashion show, you can contact Crystal Allbright at Desert Sports, also Chris Dull on Facebook. Stay tuned, more to come.

BALMORHEA PARK CLOSURE. Beginning September 3rd, Balmorhea State Park will close for extensive septic system repairs. Longstanding problems with the West Texas park’s sewerage have left visitors without access to showers in the pool bathhouses since at least last year. Septic system repairs will keep the park closed for six months with a projected reopening date of March 1, 2020. In the last year, Balmorhea State Park has partially closed for other repairs, but this marks the first time during that period that the entire park will close.

How is the removal of the Barbary Sheep accomplished? Are there other species that need to be removed? Burros? Are the sheep relocated?
ReplyDeleteQuote from Big Bend National Park website: This plan will allow for limited aerial shooting as well as live trapping of these non-native species (feral hogs and Aoudad) using the most humane feasible methods. The plan, environmental assessment, and decision document are available at http://parkplanning.nps.gov/BIBE.
