and never regret anything that makes you smile.”

Thank you and Happy New Year!

SOUTH COUNTY LIBRARY PROJECT ‑‑ The Planning Committee for the SCLP is continuing to meet and plan for future library services in South County.  Our next meeting is scheduled for 5:00 PM on Wednesday, January 3rd at the Red Pattillo Community Center.  Anyone who is interested is welcome to attend and we look forward to getting more volunteers involved as our project expands.  For more information, visit www.bigbendcitizensalliance.org or email secretary.bbca@gmail.com.

TERLINGUA TAIZÉ (pronounced: tay-zay) ‑‑ singers meet on Thursdays from 4:30 - 6:00 at the St. Inez Church in the Ghostown, led by June Rapp.  Taize is a form of music known for its simple, yet rich and meditative character.  It is meant to serve as a kind of musical centering prayer or meditation.

Singers of all abilities are welcome to join.  We sing songs acapella from many world cultures in several different languages, sacred in nature, but with no religious affiliation.  For more information contact juneprapp@gmail.com.

TRI-COUNTY VOTER PROMOTERS ‑‑ Our group will begin registering voters again in the tri-county area in early January, and is seeking volunteers to assist in this work.  Voters are registered at public locations (in front of post offices, grocery stores, at libraries, etc.) in Brewster County, Presidio County, and Jeff Davis County.  All volunteers are welcome, but Spanish speakers are badly needed.

We encourage people to vote and help them to do so.  We help them find out if they are fully registered, or if they need to update their registration with a new address.  We show them how to check their voter status at the Secretary of State’s My Voter Portal.  We are a nonpartisan organization that registers all comers.  Our goal is to expand the voter base, with special attention to younger voters and Spanish-speakers with low registration rates.

The 2024 Democratic and Republican primaries are coming sooner than most people realize:  January 1 is the first day Texans can request an absentee ballot.  February 5 is the last day to register to vote in the primaries.  Early voting begins February 20 and ends March 1.  February 23 is the last day to register to vote by mail.  Election Day for the primaries is March 5.

The Tri-County Voter Promoters believe that YOUR VOTE IS YOUR VOICE, and YOUR VOTE COUNTS.  Helping people register to vote for the very first time or helping them make sure they are still registered can be rewarding experiences.  And participating in the democratic process can be EMPOWERING!

For more information on the Tri-County Voter Promoters and how to help, please contact Roy Morey at (432) 426-0122, or email him at remorey@bigbend.net.   Thank you for your assistance.

TERLINGUA COMMUNITY GARDEN ‑‑ Come see us at the Saturday Community Market from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm.  Located at the Community Garden in the Ghost Town, we're there every Saturday with happy vendors offering an array of locally produced goods and other items.

Local art, a beekeeper's lovely honey and wax, handcrafted textile goods, goat milk soap, all natural lip balms, hand balms, essential oil perfumes and sugar scrubs, Zoey's leather goods, handcrafted, creative jewelry, including Kim's, many made with local stones, block printed textiles and vintage goods, both curated and upcycled, practical and artistic items made of reclaimed steel, Sandy's super cute pop-up shop and more -- you never know just what or who you'll find here.  Indeed, lately, chess players have been meeting up for a game or two or three or...

We welcome new vendors.  Flea market items are also welcome.  After all, reusing and up-cycling already existing items is smart and green.  We ask a $10 donation to the Community Garden to set up, helping us to continue to improve this space and experience for all of us.  For more information, text or call 432.213.1863, email SherriTheWriter@aol.com or pop in to the market for a chat.  Prepared food vendors must display current food handling license.  (A quick, easy and affordable online course can provide that).
