BOIL WATER NOTICE
For Study Butte Water Supply Corporation, today, 1-8-2024

WATER OUTAGE SCHEDULED
The water will be turned off for repair work on 1/11/24 starting at 9:00 a.m. until about 12:00 p.m. The people affected have been contacted via telephone today 1/8/24. Due to a repair of the Bee Mountain Tank Liner resulting in loss of water and pressure to some members, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has required the Study Butte Water Supply Corporation, #0220035, to notify customers ON THE WEST SIDE OF THE SERVICE AREA BEGINNING WITH DESERT SPORTS AND THE OLD TERLINGUA STORE TO BEE MOUNTAIN AND TO THE END OF THE SERVICE AREA TOWARDS THE BIG BEND NATIONAL PARK, to boil their water prior to consumption (e.g., washing hands/face, brushing teeth, drinking, etc.). Children, seniors, and persons with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all customers should follow these instructions.
To ensure destruction of a harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes.
In lieu of boiling, individuals may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source for drinking water or human consumption.
When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the public water system will issue a notice to customers that the water is safe for drinking water or human consumption.
Once the boil water notice is no longer in effect, the public water system will issue a notice to customers that rescinds the boil water notice in a manner similar to this notice.
Please share this information with all the other people who drink this water, especially those whom may not have received this notice directly (for example, people in apartments, nursing homes, schools, and businesses). You can do this by posting this notice in a public place or distributing copies by hand or mail.
If you have questions concerning this matter, you may contact Jorge Garcia at (432) 371-2913 OR Alisa De La Cruz at (432) 371-2933.

COMMUNITY GARDEN
Come see us at the Saturday Community Market from 10:00-1:00.  Located at the Community Garden in the Ghost Town, we're there every Saturday with happy vendors offering an array of locally produced goods and other items.

Local art, handcrafted textile goods, goat milk soap, all natural lip balms and skin care products, essential oil perfumes, Zoey's leather goods, handcrafted, creative jewelry, including Kim's, many made with local stones, block printed textiles and vintage goods, both curated and upcycled, practical and artistic items made of reclaimed steel, Sandy's super cute pop-up shop and more -- you never know just what or who you'll find here. Indeed, lately, chess players have been meeting up for a game or two or three or...

We welcome new vendors. Flea market items are also welcome. After all, reusing and up-cycling already existing items is smart and green. We ask a $10 donation to the Community Garden to set up, helping us to continue to improve this space and experience for all of us. For more information, text or call 432.213.1863, email SherriTheWriter@aol.com or pop in to the market for a chat. Prepared food vendors must display current food handling licence. (A quick, easy and affordable online course can provide that).

Please help keep our market space safe and comfortable for all, two-legged and four, by keeping all dogs leashed and under control. We look forward to seeing you there. Valerie is taking a month off from the pastry cart.

BIG BEND DARK SKY RESERVE
According to a recent Big Bend area tourism survey, roughly 2/3rds of visitors participated in star gazing activities during trip. The Greater Big Bend region is becoming known internationally as one of the best places in the world to see the night sky.

If you own or manage a property in the area, consider using night-sky friendly lighting practices to help preserve what makes this area so special for visitors and locals alike.
1. Outdoor lighting should have a clearly defined purpose.
2. Shield lighting to ensure it is aimed at the ground, not the sky.
3. Use amber, soft-white, or red colored lighting, and avoid bright white or blue lights outdoors.
4. Dim lights and use only what you need.
5. Turn lights off when not in use.
Learn more here about preserving the night sky here:

ALPINE HUMANE SOCIETY NEEDS DONATIONS
The Alpine Humane Society was recently contacted to see when the next spay/neuter clinic might be.  They are in deep (the 5-digit range) for the clinics they’ve already done last year.  They have to pay the vets, lodge and feed them to make it happen.  For whatever reason, expenses have skyrocketed & their donations are down 45 percent.  This is a wonderful local organization & they do a lot for the whole county.  Send them a few bucks if you can.  If your critter goes missing, it’s most likely them you’ll be calling eventually. Contact: Alpine Humane Society (432) 837-2532, sn@alpinehumanesociety.org, PO Box 1464, Alpine, TX 79831.  Physical address: 600 N. 5th, Corner of 5th & A.
