KEN AND JOEE BARNES 30th ANNUAL MEMORIAL FUNDRAISER  November 8, 2025:

We lost Joee May Barnes at the age of 16 after a tragic accident. The community opened their hearts and rallied to raise funds for our family, but it wasn’t needed for its intended purpose. Joee attended Terlingua High School, so we decided to return the money by creating a scholarship in her name. My father, Ken Barnes, kept the scholarship fund going by honoring Joee’s memory with a Memorial Fundraiser every year. My husband and I have kept the tradition going after Dad’s passing and the fundraiser now honors both their memories.
Join us November 8th for our annual Cribbage & Horseshoe tournaments (sign up at 9), BBQ (noonish) and silent auction at the Terlingua Ghostown Horseshoe Pits. All proceeds go to TCSD High School Graduate Scholarships.

THE LONGHORN RESTAURANT:

is open with consistent hours Wednesday-Saturday 7am-4pm and Sunday 8am-4pm

Those hours will extend with the hiring of new team members, and yes we are hiring for all positions.

MILKY WAY TREATS:

Saturday morning bakery pop-up will be open at 10am at the ice cream trailer! We’ll have our delicious homemade cinnamon rolls, biscuit breakfast sandwiches, cinnamon roll bread pudding, and more! Hot coffee as well!

The ice cream trailer will be open this weekend as well, Saturday – Monday, 4–9 p.m. We’ll have our creamy vanilla soft serve along with dairy-free pineapple. Lots of delicious, homemade pints of ice cream, and some fun sundaes!! Be sure to check out the community market and all the wonderful things our local vendors are selling there.

And if you haven’t checked out the new food truck next to us, Dead Hungry, it’s amazing! Give it a taste today!! Gracias, Terlingua!

ALL YOU NEED TO ATTEND AN AA MEETING IS A DESIRE TO QUIT:

If you have, or think you might have, a drinking problem, we meet at 6:30 pm on Thursday at the Big Bend Church, just north of the post office.

BBAC NEXT SHOW:

On October 28, we will prepare for setting up the next show, our Annual Members' Show.  This BBAC sponsored show accepts all mediums, with some size limitations, and will run through ArtWalk weekend to the first week of December.  Put your best work forward and plan to enter this show!  Prospectus is attached...we should have some printed for pickup at the Gallery also.

THE FAMILY CRISIS CENTER:

Does a monthly food distribution to residents of South Brewster County.  The donations made to the Crisis Center are used to purchase this food from the West Texas Food Bank.  Shout out to all of the local people who graciously donate to this cause and to all of the visiting groups who drop off donation checks when they visit the area. The monies are being used to help feed Terlingua.

The West Texas Food Bank delivers approximately 17,000 pounds of food once a month and it is up to us to unload it and box it up to be distributed. This work is done by volunteers.  We have truck delivery and boxing day and we have a distribution day, that is two days of hard labor for all of the volunteers.  If you see these folks – PLEASE SAY THANK YOU to them. Without the volunteers, these distributions would not happen. Michael and I cannot do this by ourselves. If you can volunteer, please do, we can use all the help we can get.  If you cannot volunteer, please remember to be kind to the ones who are.
We are looking at our next distribution as Friday November 14th, which means the truck should be arriving the 13th.  These dates may change according to the WTFB schedule.
In order to get a box, you will be required to have a WTFB card. If you don't have one already please stop by this week to get one. We use the amount of cards we have issued to order the food.  In order to get a card you will need to have a photo id and proof of residence in South Brewster County.  We are no longer accepting photos of id or residence from cell phones.  If you sign up after the order has been placed you will need to wait until after 1 pm on distribution day to pick up a box.
Thank you to everyone who makes this event possible!  It is so much fun being apart of this community.

SATURDAY COMMUNITY MARKET:

Open from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Located at the Community Garden in the Ghost Town, we're here every Saturday with happy vendors offering an array of locally produced goods and other items. You'll also be able to enjoy our fabulous local mobile library and portable free ‘porch’, even consult with Dr. Gigabyte if you have a computer problem.

Local art, handcrafted textile goods, fresh eggs, sour dough bread, all natural lip balms and skin care products, all natural essential oil fragrances, beard oil and massage oils, handcrafted, creative jewelry, resin creations, block printed textiles and vintage goods, both curated and upcycled, practical and artistic items made of reclaimed steel and more -- you never know just what or who you'll find here.

Flea market items are also welcome. After all, reusing and up-cycling already existing items is smart and green. We ask a $10 donation to the Community Garden to set up, helping us to continue to improve this space and experience for all of us.

We welcome new vendors. To make it easy for new vendors to try our market and to show our appreciation to our regular vendors, we waive set-up fees on the first Saturday of the month, offering free set-up on that day.

For more information, text or call 432.213.1863 or pop in at the market for a chat.

Prepared food vendors must display current food handling license. (A quick, easy and affordable online course can provide that).

Please help keep our market space safe and comfortable for all, two-legged and four, by keeping all dogs leashed and under control. We look forward to seeing you there.
