30TH ANNUAL TERLINGUA MUSIC BASH

The 30th Annual Terlingua Music Bash will be held on Oct. 16th - 19th featuring over 40 musicians performing at The Starlight Theatre, The Boathouse, and Temple of the Bird. Artists include Michael O'Connor, Miss Neese & The Ear Food Orchestra, Geronimo Trevino III, The Scott Walker Band, The Lavens, and Butch & Rory Hancock. The complete schedule is available at https://cabin10.org/terlingua-music-bash.

Al Barlow, a co-founder of The Bash,  recently passed and special performances of his songs will be a part of the Meet and Greet Open Mic at The Whitmore's starting at 5:00 pm on Thursday Oct. 16th, and at The Gospel Brunch at DB's Rustic Iron BBQ on Sunday Oct. 19th  at 11 am. Members of Al's family as well as Terri Hendrix, Lloyd Maines and other dear friends will be attending to honor Al and his music. Song circles will be held after the venues close each night at Temple of the Bird and local musicians are encouraged to join in.

The Terlingua Music Bash is a non-profit event which also hosts a silent auction that helps to fund the Mark "eYeBall" Kneeskern Memorial Art Scholarship for Terlingua CSD. The festival is built upon the long-established friendship between musicians from Al Barlow's hometown of New Braunfels and those of Terlingua. All Music Bash events are free. We will also be selling t-shirts and will have several raffles throughout the weekend. Please join new and old friends alike and enjoy the largest lineup of musical performances in the proud history of The Terlingua Music Bash.

If you are coming and are still looking for accommodations, here’s a list that may be of help. Those with “*” are offering discounts to TMB attendees. https://cabin10.org/places-to-stay-%26-play

This coming weekend!! Terlingua Music Bash/ Silent Auction benefiting the children of Terlingua High School

The Silent Auction which helps fund the Mark (eYeBall) Kneeskern Memorial Art Scholarship benefitting Terlingua CSD is this coming Saturday, October 18, at The Boathouse Bar and Bungalows. The auction is held as part of the Terlingua Music Bash which is the 16th – 19th (more info on the music event itself here: https://cabin10.org/terlingua-music-bash)

For those who may not have known Mark, he and his partner Shannon lived in Terlingua for part of the year and then went on to other adventures during the other months. They helped to found the Terlingua Community Garden, created art that can still be seen all over town, and encouraged the artistic talents and love of nature of the children of Terlingua.

Mark was the author of ‘the Last AMERICAN Hitch Hiker {Journal from the Roadside}” which you can still purchase at the Terlingua Trading Company. Tragically, Mark died in an accident while on tour for that book in 2014 and we have done our best to carry his flame in encouraging the love of the arts with the Terlingua children. Each year, the Mark Kneeskern Memorial Art Scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior of Terlingua High School to allow them to pursue fine arts.

We have had some marvelous things donated for this year’s auction so please be sure to come by The Boathouse on Saturday, October 18 any time after 4:20 p.m. to check out the items and bid. Our community, near and far, has really risen to the occasion; just some of the items include art from local artists Crystal Allbright, Mellie Baggett and Molly Dumas; gift certificates to Milky Way Treats and Posada Milagro y Poco Mas; a weekend stay in the Far Flung Outdoor Center Casitas with ½ raft trip, Massage sessions with Desert Lotus Healing Arts-Massage Therapy and Rolfing; original photographs by artist and filmmaker Tim Hussin; signed copies of Chase Peeler’s “On the Porch: Life and Music in Terlingua, Texas”; a set of 6 Talavera plates; a brand new/ in the box 4K gasoline generator with cart and much MUCH more!

The photograph that Crystal Allbright, who was a dear friend of Mark’s, donated is her “Damselfly & Santa Elena”. This image adorned the cover of the 2015 Big Bend National Park Calendar. She says it reminds her of the fabulous artist, Mark Kneeskern. He is keeping an eye on us as we share his love for art and the outdoors.

¡Viva Terlingua!  ¡Viva eYeBall!

Remembering Susan Avery aka Sunshine: Those of you who will be in Terlingua on Wednesday Oct. 15th, please come to Gareth Park from 3-6 in the afternoon for a special remembrance and the spreading of the ashes for Susan Avery. Her well-deserved nickname was Sunshine and she was a dear friend to Al, to the Music Bash and to all of us. She prepared the food for the traditional Gospel Brunch for many years and while serving would thank each musician for their music. She and Mr. Avery supported all of our music. Come play a song for them.

The significance of this time and day is that it will be the anniversary, to the very hour, that Mr. Avery proposed to her at Gareth Park in the campground during a Music Bash.

Any and everybody can bring a guitar and sing and doing that would mean a lot to our dear friend Mr. Avery. And to the memory of our friend Sunshine.

ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS

Enjoy Our Saturday Community Market, Welcome New Vendors

Come see us at the Saturday Community Market, open from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Located at the Community Garden in the Ghost Town, we're here every Saturday with happy vendors offering an array of locally produced goods and other items. You'll also be able to enjoy our fabulous local mobile library and portable free ‘porch’, even consult with Dr. Gigabyte if you have a computer problem.

Local art, handcrafted textile goods, fresh eggs, sour dough bread, all natural lip balms and skin care products, all natural essential oil fragrances, beard oil and massage oils, handcrafted, creative jewelry, resin creations, block printed textiles and vintage goods, both curated and upcycled, practical and artistic items made of reclaimed steel and more -- you never know just what or who you'll find here.

Flea market items are also welcome. After all, reusing and up-cycling already existing items is smart and green. We ask a $10 donation to the Community Garden to set up, helping us to continue to improve this space and experience for all of us.

We welcome new vendors. To make it easy for new vendors to try our market and to show our appreciation to our regular vendors, we waive set-up fees on the first Saturday of the month, offering free set-up on that day.

For more information, text or call 432.213.1863 or pop in at the market for a chat. Prepared food vendors must display current food handling licence. (A quick, easy and affordable online course can provide that).

Please help keep our market space safe and comfortable for all, two-legged and four, by keeping all dogs leashed and under control. We look forward to seeing you there.
