Big Bend National Park
Chisos Basin road construction to begin November 20.  If you are planning a trip to Big Bend National Park in November, December or January, please take careful note of the following information.

From November 20 - January 29, the road to the Chisos Basin will be: 

CLOSED 8:00 am-11:00 am

Open with delays 11:00 am-1:00 pm

CLOSED 1:00 pm-3:00 pm

Open with delays 3:00 pm-7:00 pm

The road will be Open without delays from 7:00 pm-8:00 am.

Road construction will NOT occur during the Christmas/New Year (December 23-January 4) holidays.


Boquillas Santa Claus 

Well, it’s that time again and Santa is getting ready for Christmas in Boquillas. My friend Doug Christian will be making deliveries this year, but I am still helping to make sure it happens. PARK ALERT: PARK REMAINS OPEN, BARTON WARNOCK VC CLOSED.
Due to a positive COVID case among staff, the Barton Warnock Visitor Center at Big Bend Ranch State Park will be CLOSED from December 13 - 23 (Note that all visitor centers at BBRSP will be
CLOSED all day on Christmas Day, December 25th).
The Sauceda Ranger Station (in the park interior) and Fort Leaton State Historic Site (west park entrance at Presidio) and all camping and trails will remain open.
Day-use visitors - may obtain permits online, use the self-pay kiosk at the BWVC or acquire permits in person at Fort Leaton or Sauceda. The self-pay kiosk may NOT be used for overnight camping.
Overnight visitors - with a reservation or same-day (walk-up) reservations must check in at Fort Leaton or the Sauceda Ranger Station. Reservations can still be made online. If you arrive after-hours, check in at the Fort or Sauceda the following morning.
 **** Backcounty permits may be acquired from Fort Leaton or Sauceda. BC PERMITS MUST BE ISSUED IN PERSON SO PLEASE PLAN AHEAD ****

Paisano Post from Terlingua CSD

Ms. Crockett: Elementary art classes completed dioramas. Ms. Willmon: History Fair students have begun their research for this year’s theme “Communication in History: the Key to Understanding”. They will compete at the Big Bend Regional History Fair on March 3. Art Classes have completed several projects for the holiday season which include trees from recycled wire hangers, candle making, and festive arrangements. BBHS Student Council sponsored a project to provide Christmas cards to veterans at the VA center in Big Spring. Students made cards and provided positive messages to our veterans. Students in the Upward Bound program attended a virtual program on the International Space Station on Saturday, December 12.

Ms. Reed: The Sophomores earned recognition in every category of the Binational Rio Research Round-up. Finalists for Multi-media Project were Giselle Hernandez, Edwing Maldonado, and Jennifer Contreras. Honorable Mention for Visual/Literary Art was Melenie Orozco. Honorable Mention for 90-second Video were Kaycie Krueger, Jenni Baeza, and Chase Willard. Honorable Mention for Social Media were Haziel Galindo, Neila Aviles, and Ethan Rameriz. 


Ugly Sweater Party and contest at the High Sierra, Monday, December 21st at 7pm. You vote for your favorites!

1st place- $50 restaurant gift certificate

2nd place- $10 restaurant gift certificate & 1 drink token

3rd place- 2 drink tokens

Judging begins at 8pm. Must be present to win. 


We will be holding a memorial service for Bill Valentine on Saturday, January 2 at 2:00 pm at the 

chili site behind the store. 

  We are having it outside so we can have more people come and hopefully still stay safe and healthy.


News from Angelfire Creations. We are temporarily closed until further notice.  Lynda Daniels has volunteered to go back in the medical field as a respiratory therapist.  Please keep her in your prayers as she has been stationed in San Angelo. She will be working the front line with covid patients.  She will open back as soon as she returns and after self quarantining.

Chef Mike here; menu finalized today, and... after a  31 hour shift for Thanksgiving, my crew & I are confident in blowin our own stockings off, by comparison. The Bad Rabbit is only gettin Badder and Better.  Y'all stay tuned, and make your reservations for Christmas Day ASAP.


The Terlingua Bottoms Group of AA meets every Thursday at 7:30 at the Big Bend Church in Study Butte. The meetings are open to anyone who has or thinks they may have a drinking problem. We meet in a group of less than five, wear masks, and practice Social Distancing.
