Big Bend Overland Tours wishes to extend our thanks for all your interest, and hope that all of you are staying safe! We have been closed for a bit, and although we still are not offering tours, we're busy putting together an operational plan that will allow us to continue doing tours while keeping everyone safe. Email is still not operational, and we aren't taking reservations yet, but you can call (432) 294-1113 if you have questions.
LIMITED LODGING AND CAMPING TO RESUME
As part of the phased re-opening, Big Bend National Park will resume additional visitor services on June 15th,
including opportunities for camping and lodging.

It is important to read through the entire page, as some facilities will open several days after the 15th, and some areas of the park will continue to be closed.
Desert Sports will not be keeping regular shop hours for the month of June. Tours and rentals will not be available until further notice. For bike repairs or parts, please leave a phone message at 432-371-2727, and we will call you back to make arrangements. Stay cool!
Terlingua Legion
Although delayed by the pandemic, on May 30, 2020 the membership of the Terlingua American Legion Post 653 elected a new Commander as they do every year. I am proud to accept that position for 2020. Over the last year we lost a great patriot and Commander in the person of D. Wayne Powell. We miss you Wayne. In December 2019 Dennis Yancy stepped into Wayne’s shoes as Commander. Both of these Commanders deserve our thanks and gratitude for their service during a very difficult year. If you are a Veteran in the Terlingua/Study Butte area and would like to meet your fellow veterans in the area, I would welcome an opportunity to meet you. If you are not a veteran, the Post is open to the public. Please join us. The next meeting of the Legion will be on Thursday, June 18th at 4 pm. We will be discussing our goals for the next year. This meeting is open to any dues paying member of Post 653.

Life in South County is still caught in A Limbo of Weirdness due to LaRona and her unwelcome amigo COVID-19. At Shot Time Liquors we are open our regular days and hours, but only with the DRIVE THRU. So, let us remind you of some of the wonderful and wacky things that we have on our shelves.
First up is Skrewball - a Peanut butter Whiskey that is Crazy Good! We swear! It is a tiny bit sweet, but not toooooo much and tastes exactly like you think. Everyone that has tried it has come back for more.
Next up, we have the insanely good BONES COFFE that we brought in right before we had to close the damn doors! Ground, Beans, Decaf, and K-Cups. All of it runs $15. I will post flavors to Facebook this week.
Then, we brought in some yummy-licious Ginger Liqueur from DeKyper. Perfect for summer coolers.

To receive a ballot for the July 14, 2020 primary runoff election, the application must be in the County election office by end of business on July 2, 2020
For a ballot to be counted in the July 14 runoff it must be received in the election office by 7/14/20.
For those submitting an application for mail ballots:
Be sure to mark Annual on the application, so that you receive all the ballots going out this year
Be sure to designate which Party you want a primary runoff ballot so that she can send you the correct ballot. If you voted in one party’s primary election in March, you can only vote in that same party’s primary runoff.
For those who want to deliver their mail ballot application directly to Lora Nussbaum’s office:
In a previous email I listed her PHYSICAL ADDRESS as 205 N 7th St. Apparently the entire building has the address 203 N 7th St. However, Lora’s office door is the one north of the door for the early voting location.
For those needing to correct the MAILING ADDRESS to send in mail ballot applications:

Note that early voting has been extended for 2 weeks, however all early voting will be at the Val Beard Office Complex in Alpine. There will be no remote early voting.

Reference: COVID-19 Novel Coronavirus, Brewster County
On June 15, 2020, Brewster County received confirmation for their 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th COVID-19 positive cases. All recent Brewster County cases, including these, are all within North Brewster County and are as follows: (8) a female in her 60s, (9) a female in her 40s, (10) a male in his 60s, (11) a male in his 20s. All transmissions are assumed to be community-spread at this time, and all are self-isolating at their individual homes. DSHS is supporting Brewster County in identifying any close contacts of the patient so they can be isolated and monitored for symptoms.
The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) Public Health Region 9/10 is reminding the public that it is conducting contact investigation on persons who have tested positive to determine possible exposure to others. If the health department has not contacted you, there is no need to take any action at this time.
The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) Public Health Region 9/10 and Brewster County continue to work together against COVID-19. We are vigilant and reporting results for COVID-19 in the region. We are also working together to educate and promote social distancing and staying at home.
In order to share facts and not fear, we continue to emphasize the importance of prevention and there are simple steps everyone can take to help prevent spreading the virus:
Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
If soap and water are not available, use a 60% alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
Stay home when you are sick.
Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
Practice social distancing by staying at least six feet away
