"We have one life, one shot at all the glorious things of life, and we walk about constricted, apologetic, afraid. We have so little time; we have so little space upon which to spread our love and our talents and our kindness. Run toward life fulsomely and freely." ~ Tennessee Williams
Big Bend River Tours will be closed through the end of June 2020 due to the virus. We look forward to sharing the river with you soon.

Donkey Therapy USA
Research has shown that spending time with donkeys has enormous therapeutic benefits.
Donkeys are naturally calm animals. Their slow and steady presence gives a feeling of security and comfort to the poorly, the elderly and those feeling vulnerable or suffering from emotional difficulties.
Touching, grooming and cuddling donkeys is a great social facilitator, allowing people to relax and feel a sense of nurturing and connection.
Big Bend Library has books available free to the public that have been taken out of circulation. The books will be on carts located outside of the library on the campus of TCSD. Everything from children's titles through adult non-fiction.
The US Census is still hiring - Midland and Ector counties are apying $24.50 an hour. Rural counties in west Texas are apying $18.00 an hour.

As reported a couple of weeks ago, the U.S. Census Bureau is beginning a phased reopening of our Area Census Offices (ACOs). Starting Monday, June 8th, the El Paso ACO office 3177 will be scheduled to begin their phased restart.
As always, the health and safety of the public and Census staff is of the utmost importance to the Bureau. All returning staff will receive safety training to observe social distancing protocols in the COVID-19 environment. The Census Bureau has ordered Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for all field employees, including those that work in a field office. These materials will be provided to staff prior to restarting operations.
As part of the phased restart, the Census Bureau will resume Update Leave, dropping off 2020 Census invitation packets at front doors of households in areas where the majority of households do not receive mail at their home. Update Leave will be a no-contact operation - we are only hanging the Census packet on doors, not ringing doorbells or knocking and interacting with residents. Now more than ever, we will need your help in ensuring community awareness of Census operations.

The IRS is issuing economic impact payments to every eligible American. We need your help to reach individuals who do not normally file because they do not have enough income that requires them to file. This includes the homeless, unbanked, certain seniors and some limited English proficient. Individuals will need to provide information to the IRS to get their economic impact payment. If possible those individuals can use the IRS free online tool to sign up to get an economic impact payment
Landowners.
Many, most, of us have seen the rise in use of Zoom and Facebook video conferencing over the past few weeks and months.
As a landowner not often able to attend the POATRI Quarterly Meetings I think that use of either of these media sources, or something similar, would be something to consider by the POATRI Board Members.
It would, in my opinion, help facilitate quicker comments/requests from the Landowners and responses from Our Board.
This time savings could equate to cost savings. Benefiting all POATRI members/Landowners.
Terlingua Ranch Landowners, POATRI, what do you think?
Let's discuss this on the "private" Terlingua (Ranch) Property Owners Facebook page.

The 2020 Census has resumed delivery of response packets in areas that do not receive mail directly to their home. Respond using your Census ID number to complete your 2020Census form online at 2020census.gov, by phone or by mail. If you previously responded without your Census ID, you can respond again using your Census ID so that your response can be matched with where you live. This may eliminate the need to visit you in person to collect your data.
When our communities are undercounted, representation our communities deserve is given to other communities instead, weakening our political power and not receiving funds we need for medical services, food assistance, education, roads and more. Please respond to the 2020 Census. Everyone Counts!

Because of school closures from COVID-19, Texas received approval from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to provide more than $1 billion in pandemic food benefits to families with children that have temporarily lost access to free or reduced-price school meals.
Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) provides eligible families with a one-time payment for each child who previously received free or reduced-price meals. P-EBT works the same way Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits do and will help families get the food they need during the current pandemic. P-EBT will be administered by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, Texas Department of Agriculture and Texas Education Agency. To learn about eligibility and how to apply, see the FAQ below:
