TEXAS WELL OWNER NETWORK PROGRAM (TWON) ‑‑ the TWON program is a free, educational training for Texas residents who depend on household wells for their water needs who want to become familiar with groundwater resources, septic system maintenance, well maintenance, water quality and water treatment.
Water sample kits will be available for purchase from Brewster-Jeff Davis Extension, Brewster County Groundwater District, and the Jeff Davis County Underground Water Conservation District. Samples can be purchased at any time over the weeks leading up to the program; however, they must be delivered to the Brewster County Extension office on the morning of October 11th.
We had such a good turnout with this program a few years ago that it was decided to implement the full four-hour Well Educated educational program component as a follow up on Friday, October 13th from 8 AM – 12 PM, at the Big Bend Telephone Conference Center in Alpine. Assistance with results analysis will be available at the program as well.

NATIONAL VOTER REGISTRATION DAY ‑‑ is September 19th. National Voter Registration Day is a nonpartisan civic holiday to get Americans registered and vote-ready. This year marks the 11th anniversary of the holiday. Why celebrate National Voter Registration Day? As many as 1 in 4 eligible Americans are NOT registered to vote, and this figure is EVEN higher for youth and communities of color. Millions of Americans miss elections each year due to registration problems or missing deadlines. Our democracy works best when more of us participate! The nonpartisan Tri-County Voter Promoters have partnered with the NVRD organization to register voters. To assist the Tri-County Voter Promoters in their registration efforts, please email remorey@bigbend.net, or call (432) 426-0122.

JERRY BLANTON ‑‑ for those of you who knew
Jerry Blanton, he passed peacefully last night on his 87th birthday. He was known for his slide guitars, and wrote
"San Antonio" that Willie Nelson sang and recorded for the World's
Fair. He was still making slide guitars,
which have been considered to be some of the best by steel guitar players- in
craftsmanship and tone. I'd heard he had
a pet goat, when I asked he told me he'd modified a pickup truck so she could
cruise around with him.
Jerry was a neighbor and a friend and I'm lucky to have known him. He was a sweet and humble man. My heart goes out to his family, his daughter Julie and his friend Susan Williams, who purchased a house he built on Sawmill. Here's a link to "San Antonio".
BLACK GEORGE ‑‑ Black George passed away yesterday. Gone, but never forgotten. He was 100 years old. Fare thee well my friend. Yeeeha!-- Marcos Paredes
PLEASE CONSIDER ‑‑ Hat Bailey’s E-bike burned up along with his workshop. A GoFundMe for Hat Bailey has been set up and $250 was raised today. Click on link: https://gofund.me/bb2f3dc5, or search “Hat Bailey” on GoFundMe. Please consider helping out. Thank you!

SATURDAY COMMUNITY MARKET ‑‑ Come see us at the Saturday Community Market from 10:00-1:00. Located at the Community Garden in the Ghost Town, we're there every Saturday with happy vendors offering an array of locally produced goods and other items.
We welcome new vendors. Come set up in the shade to sell your wares. Flea market items are welcome. After all, reusing and up-cycling already existing items is smart and green. We ask a $10 donation to the Community Garden to set up, helping us to continue to improve this space and experience for all of us. For more information, text or call 432.213.1863, email SherriTheWriter@aol.com or pop in to the market for a chat. Prepared food vendors must display current food handling license. (A quick, easy and affordable online course can provide that).
Fresh eggs, local art, handcrafted textiles, goat milk soap, all natural lip balms, hand balms, essential oil perfumes and sugar scrubs, leather goods, handcrafted-creative jewelry, block printed textiles and vintage goods, both curated and up-cycled, and more -- you never know just what you'll find here. You might find even a local painter displaying her lovely, colorful works and a locally famous jerky maker on hand selling his tasty wares.
Do you have mad skills and smart, practical talents you'd like to share? We all love to learn about sustainable arts and useful skills here in Terlingua. Let's talk about a workshop.
Please help keep our market space safe and comfortable for all, two-legged and four, by keeping all dogs leashed and under control. We look forward to seeing you there.

This gathering is meant to bring a fresh look at your dreams and vision for the future with hands-on participation and speaking our desires to bring our dreams into reality.
