Paisano Post from Terlingua School

Terlingua School Parents, Families, and Friends: PreK-4th school supplies have been donated by The Summit and 5th-8th school supplies have been donated by Billy & Jess Bartko. All of these supplies will be ready to go for the students at school and students in PreK-8th will just need a backpack and lunch box. The list for high school students is attached. We are so thankful for these generous donations. The school supplies list is also on the school’s website under the Parent Resources tab. Feel free to share. Go Paisanos and thanks again to The Summit and The Bartkos and to Vane Palma for helping coordinate this effort.

Come see us at the Saturday Community Market from 10:00-1:00.  We're planning to run right on through the summer. Located at the Community Garden in the Ghost Town, we're there every Saturday with happy vendors offering an array of locally produced goods and other items.

We welcome new vendors. Come set up in the shade to sell your wares. Flea market items are welcome. After all, reusing and up-cycling already existing items is smart and green. We ask a $10 donation to the Community Garden to set up, helping us to continue to improve this space and experience for all of us. For more information, text or call 432.213.1863, email SherriTheWriter@aol.com or pop in to the market for a chat.

Fresh eggs, local art, handcrafted textiles, goat milk soap, all natural lip balms, hand balms and perfumes, leather goods, handcrafted, creative jewelry, block printed textiles and vintage goods, both curated and upcycled, and more -- you never know just what you'll find here. We even had some lovely locally grown produce this past Saturday and that vendor expects to be back this Saturday with more from her garden.

Do you have mad skills and smart, practical talents you'd like to share? We all love to learn about sustainable arts and useful skills here in Terlingua. Let's talk about a workshop.

Please help keep our market space safe and comfortable for all, two-legged and four, by keeping all dogs leashed and under control. We look forward to seeing you there.

Calling All Amphibian and Reptile Enthusiasts @ Terlingua Ranch Bunkhouse on 8/11 - Dr. Corey Roelke, herpetologist from University of Texas, Arlington and lover of all things Big Bend, will be sharing his knowledge of herptofauna (aka amphibians and reptiles) in a presentation in the Bunkhouse on Friday night. Dr. Roelke is a frequent visitor to Big Bend and guest at Terlingua Ranch where he has documented a colony of unusual Texas whiptail lizards on our grounds. Join us Friday evening, August 11 at 7:00 PM. While you're here grab a burger or banana split, or just a bag of popcorn while you enjoy his presentation. There is no charge to join your fellow herp lovers or just learn more about our neighborhood snakes and lizards.

First of all, I wanted to introduce myself. I am Layla Spurlock the Park Interpreter at Big Bend Ranch State Park. I am writing to let the Moon readers know about two exciting events the Barton Warnock Visitor Center is hosting this fall.

On Saturday, September 23, 2023 in honor of National Public Lands Day Big Bend Ranch State Park is hosting Cleanup on the Rio. National Public Lands Day is the largest, single-day volunteer event for public lands. This event will begin at 8 AM, we will meet at the La Cuesta campground and participants can expect to spend the day working with park staff to clean up trash along the River Corridor to ensure that Big Bend Ranch State Park is preserved for future generations. Refreshments will be provided.

The weekend of October 20-22, 2023 to celebrate 100 years of Texas State Parks, Big Bend Ranch State Park is hosting Find Your Trail. This will be an action packed weekend, showcasing the wide variety of recreation activities the park offers. We will be hosting a star party (in partnership with Big Bend National Park), guided hikes, a trail run, bike tours, and so much more!

For both of these events we ask that people contact Barton Warnock Visitor Center at (432) 424-3327 for further information. We would love to see our local Terlingua community out at their park. Our website also will give further details of these events. If you have any questions please email me at layla.spurlock@tpwd.texas.gov or give me a call at (432) 424-3327 x.2.
