TERLINGUA COMMUNITY GARDEN
Come see us at the Saturday Community Market from 10:00-1:00.  Located at the Community Garden in the Ghost Town, we're there every Saturday with happy vendors offering an array of locally produced goods and other items.

We welcome new vendors. Come set up in the shade to sell your wares. Flea market items are welcome. After all, reusing and up-cycling already existing items is smart and green. We ask a $10 donation to the Community Garden to set up, helping us to continue to improve this space and experience for all of us. For more information, text or call 432.213.1863, email SherriTheWriter@aol.com or pop in to the market for a chat. Prepared food vendors must display current food handling licence. (A quick, easy and affordable online course can provide that)

Fresh eggs, local art, handcrafted textiles, goat milk soap, all natural lip balms, hand balms, essential oil perfumes and sugar scrubs, leather goods, handcrafted, creative jewelry, block printed textiles and vintage goods, both curated and upcycled, and more -- you never know just what you'll find here. This past Saturday, we also had a local painter displaying her lovely, colorful works and a locally famous jerky maker was on hand selling his wares.

Do you have mad skills and smart, practical talents you'd like to share? We all love to learn about sustainable arts and useful skills here in Terlingua. Let's talk about a workshop.

Please help keep our market space safe and comfortable for all, two-legged and four, by keeping all dogs leashed and under control. We look forward to seeing you there.

CHECK OUT THIS WORKSHOP!
Dreamers Workshop
Are you looking for your dreams? Have you lost your vision? In this desert life, we often get lost in the silence or grow weary of waiting on long-awaited dreams and aspirations that haven't come to pass. With this summer's heat, it's been increasingly difficult to focus on our goals, dreams, and visions.
Ever had a dream you've been waiting on for years just to give up and let those dreams die? I have. It's time to revive your hope, vision, and dreams. Join me in a 3-week workshop on building hope and vision for the future. Awaken the dreamer in you! This gathering is meant to bring a fresh look at your dreams and vision for the future with hands-on participation and speaking our desires to bring our dreams into reality.
Build your dream muscles! This 3-week course will be complete with discussion and sharing; building a visual, tangible guide to reviving the dreams in your life with reflection and encouragement from your neighbors and community.

The workshop is free. It will be a 2 hour session every Monday from 4:00pm to 6:00pm for 3 weeks. All that will be needed is a pair of scissors. All ages are welcome! Let's get together and encourage each other!

Big Bend Citizens Alliance Receives Funding to Launch Mobile Library!

The Big Bend Citizens Alliance is thrilled to announce that our South County Library Committee has been approved for a $57,000 grant from Brewster County ARPA funds for the creation of a mobile library unit. This is the first phase of our plan to create a new public library to serve South Brewster County.

The need for a library in South County arose with the advent of increased restrictions post-COVID and the Uvalde school shooting. Currently, the only library in south Brewster County is at the Terlingua CSD. This library once served the whole community, but state regulations have made that library and its resources inaccessible to the public. In the past year, the South County Library Committee formed and mobilized in response to these restrictions, advocating for and envisioning a new brick-and-mortar library flush with additional health, wellness, and cultural services that are oft-inaccessible to the segmented and remote reaches of the county.

The committee launched an extensive survey effort in the spring of 2023 to determine community interest and need. The survey yielded encouragingly high response rates and enthusiastic support for the library. Key needs and services were determined: namely book exchange, WiFi, and printing, as well as high interest in a mobile unit with books and social services. With the ARPA funds, the Committee will be able to outfit and launch this mobile trailer in the coming months.

We would like to thank Brewster County for entrusting the Big Bend Citizens Alliance with these funds for the South County Library Project. The $57,000 funding is a vote of confidence and a pathway to launch. However, it is not the end. The ARPA funds will enable the Committee to purchase and customize a 24ft trailer, but will not cover solar installation, satellite internet, or operating costs. Initial books and computers will be donated, and transport and staffing of the trailer are to be supported by grassroots volunteer power.  However, this will not cover the entire costs of operation, including gas, repairs, and a stipend for a project manager. This is a huge step, but we still need help to realize our mission, provide transformative services to our rural community, and build a permanent home for the South County Library and lifelong learners across Big Bend.

If you would like to contribute to the success of this project, donations may be made to the Big Bend Citizens Alliance, PO Box 202, Terlingua, TX  79852.  Please note “Library” in the memo field of your check.  Or, you may donate at https://bigbendcitizensalliance.org.
