Vol.34  No. 9

"We have one life, one shot at all the glorious things of life, and we walk about constricted, apologetic, afraid. We have so little time; we have so little space upon which to spread our love and our talents and our kindness. Run toward life fulsomely and freely."            ~ Tennessee Williams

Gathering for the parade will be at any time necessary for the preparation of your "float" to make the 5:30 start. ALL FLOATS AND UGLY FEET WELCOME. The Ugly Feet contest will take place on the Ghosttown porch right after the parade FEATURING MUSIC BY THE MOONSHINERS. Please try to attend with a float and enter your ugly feet into the contest, or just come as a spectator and spread the word. Please don't be shy about entering your UGLY FEET. Be proud of your ugly feet! Terlingua is notorious for our ugly feet. Don't let the tourists beat you because the entire planet is eligible to enter.

From Mr Anthenat: Congratulations to team 11720 - Purobots! They lost their robot, tools, classroom and more in a fire last Friday the 17th. Tuesday and Wednesday they traveled to El Dorado HS in El Paso and built a new robot along with parts from Montwood HS. Dr. Gonzales from UTEP also donated tools and game components. On Friday they traveled to Lubbock HS to compete in regionals against 36 of the best teams from the Panhandle and west TX. They placed 28th. The judges were impressed with the Purobots' determination and perseverance through the complete season and devastating fire this last week. The judges presented them with the prestigious Judges Award! Congratulations to Seniors: Ethan and Giselle, Juniors: Laila, Severino, Jen O, and Romina, Sophomores: Brooke, Luna, Rigo and Evan.

Check out this cool model by the incredible architectural firm Page/ rendering their plans for the new addition along with the original 1937 structure.

The grand opening is March 10 & 11, 2023. A ticketed event will be held on Friday, March 10 from 6 - 8 pm. The museum will be free and open to the public on Saturday, March 11 with book signings & presentations throughout the day. From the Terlingua school:  Sadly, our school lost the band hall and robotics lab to a fire that occurred over the night of 2/16/23. We have been overwhelmed and inspired by all of the offers for help that we have received over the last few days. The district's insurance will be replacing the building, instructional materials, and instruments purchased by TCSD. Unfortunately, there were many of the students' and Mr. Anthenat's personal instruments and items that were lost in the fire that were not covered. Any funds that are donated will go directly to either our band student fund or our robotics student funds. These funds are managed directly by our student groups, and will be used to replace the personal instruments and items lost in the fire. Please make the donations to: Terlingua Common School District (note either band, robotics, or both)  PO Box 256  Terlingua, TX 79852

Likewise, many of our friends have reached out to donate instruments, robotics parts, or tools. Any of these items can be dropped off at the school or mailed to:   Terlingua Common School District, 550 Roadrunner Circle, Terlingua, TX 79852.

City of Presidio  Per a reconstruction conference with TDOT, the Presidio-Ojinaga International Bride expansion will resume in Mid March with an anticipated completion in September.

2 years ago today I suffered a massive cardiac arrest in Terlingua TX. I was with my girlfriend Jennifer Pittinger in her car on the way to Alpine hospital with chest pains and the heart attack happened just on the way out of Terlingua. Jennifer turned her car around and raced to the EMS and Marcus E. Smith and his team paddled me back to life. Thank you sweet Jennifer!.  Marcus and his team kept me stable and got me to Alpine and then I was flown to Odessa and got the surgery I needed. A lot of luck and timing saved me...a lot of good skilled people were involved to get me back and be here today typing this 2 years later. The EMS in Terlingua are amazing and important simply because it’s so out in the wild west and they are the difference for those living there between possibly losing your life or in my case keeping it. I will always be grateful to the Terlingua EMS for their professionalism and dedication and all the others in the chain that got me back. Also I will never forget family and friends who supported me with love through that crazy time. God is Great.        ~Markus Manstroma
