CASI Terlingua Good morning Terlingua. We have had a couple of questions about the trick or treaters we get at the Ranch on Halloween. We always love it when the kids come by and this year, with Halloween being on Thursday, we have made special arrangements to allow the trick or treaters to come to the Ranch at no charge. They will all receive a special arm band for this occasion. So get your candy out and hopefully we get to visit with the kids this year.

The multi-day holiday involves family and friends gathering to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died and helping support their spiritual journey. In Mexican culture, death is viewed as a natural part of the human cycle. Mexicans view it not as a day of sadness but as a day of celebration because their loved ones awake and celebrate with them.

All Energies Tip of the Week: Properly grounding your home can reduce the chance of damage from lightning, and will increase your personal safety. Even if lightning doesn’t strike your home directly, nearby lightning can cause a static electric charge to build up on the metal of electrical items such as refrigerators, microwaves and solar panels (just to name a few). The metal frames of electrical items are connected to ground, and the static charge can be drained off through an earth ground.  Most earth grounds are copper-clad ground rod(s) or copper plates buried in the dirt. Unfortunately, dry dirt makes for poor grounding, a common issue in here in Far West Texas. A very good grounding technique for dry areas is an Ufer Ground. You can create and Ufer Ground by connecting a wire to the network of rebar in a concrete slab. If you need help making your solar system work better, email casey@allenergies.net or call/text 432-242-1874

Thank you BBRSP Ambassador Chelsey Borris, and Annalise Reichert from the TPWD Sustainability Branch. Thank you JD Newsome, from Big Bend Conservation Alliance. Thank you, Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Council for your help to promote our 11th annual Festival of Sustainability and Creativity. Thank you donors, who provided so many great items for our charity auction and raffle. Thank you, Paul for auctioneering for us! The funds we raised this weekend will help carry the Community Garden through another year of planting, projects, and educational programs. And I would like to personally thank the amazing volunteers who help turn an IDEA into a REALITY: Zoey, Casey, Amber, Tim G, Tonia, Ross, Joselyn, Robert K, Jeff M, Jenny, Molly, and Arick.
