“The conquistadors called Big Bend ‘el despoblado’, the deserted wilderness. Not many have ever wanted to live in this brutally harsh desert, not soldiers, not settlers, not smugglers. Even Apaches and Comanches were just passing through. - Until now.”

All Energies Tip of the Week
Proper battery watering will help your bank last longer and produce less mess. Most of the batteries in the Big Bend are the flooded lead acid type, which means they require maintenance. These batteries contain Sulfuric Acid, often referred to as electrolyte which is about 30% acid and 70% water. The water in the electrolyte is lost over time and needs to be replenished. Check the electrolyte approximately every 30 days. Batteries will consume more water in warmer months and older batteries need the electrolyte checked more often. ALWAYS wear safety glasses and gloves when adding distilled water! NEVER have an open flame, spark, or lit cigarette around your batteries. Use a flashlight with a narrow beam to look at the liquid level in the cell. The electrolyte level in the battery needs to be above the plates and below the recessed well. Don’t worry about spilling distilled water on top of the batteries, since pure water is a poor electrical conductor. Bring the electrolyte level to about one-quarter inch below the bottom of the cell well, or about 1.25” below the top of the battery, do not overfill. If you need help making your solar system work better, email casey@allenergies.net or call/text 432-242-1874.

Earth and Fire Gallery
Opening Party for this month’s Guest Artist, Linda Walker, Saturday at 5:30 PM.
“When we travel we sometimes get lucky and find those local artists whose works are not only unique, but exceptional. Particularly in emerging nations many of these artists are unable to bring their talents and products to a larger audience. My husband and I traveled to Guatemala this summer on a medical mission/vacation that morphed into a buying trip for unique art and stupendous textiles. Know that a fair price was paid for all this work - we believe in supporting these artists in the small studios and homes where they create these pieces. we hope you will enjoy both the artwork/textile and knowing you were helping to keep their dreams alive” — Linda Walker
