Big Bend National Park Is Celebrating 75 Years!!!
Commemorate the Past While Inspiring Future Explorers
Where
are you taking the kids/grandkids this summer? If you are thinking
about reducing their time spent on devices then consider some nature
therapy in Big Bend. We know camping isn't for everyone, but several
places in the area offer wonderful accommodations without t.v.'s and
have lovely pools for the kids to splash around. If you wander to where
the WiFi is weak, take a hike in the Chisos Mountains in Big Bend
National Park. This area of the park is generally cooler in the summer
months due to its elevation.
Visit Big Bend Travel Guidance
Experience
the Big Bend Region in an entirely different way. We’re excited to
unveil the Big Bend Guide on our website with integrated mobile apps, an
interactive way to map out everything you don’t want to miss in Big
Bend. Designed with our partners at Visit Widget, this tool provides a
new way to explore what the area has to offer, including upcoming
events, popular restaurants, area hot spots, shopping, and points of
interest. View it all at once or search by categories like Lodging,
Dining or Nightlife. Go to www.visitbigbend.com now to start planning or download the free app. We'll see you when you get here!
Featured Property
For
a fun & cool summer destination check out Terlingua Ranch Lodge.
It's off the beaten path, but that's the beauty of the place. They have a
lovely pool with 360° mountain views. The restaurant is known for their
pizzas and delicious burgers. Make sure to get their hours of operation
before hand, since they are punctual about their closing time. An easy
trail just past the water tower leads to a waterfall washout. To book a
clean & comfortable cabin or RV spot call (432)-371-3146 Click on
the photo below to get to their website.
Swimming Pools of Big Bend Region
The
best way to enjoy Big Bend this summer is to plan your hikes in the
morning or evening to avoid the mid-day heat. Additionally, consider
booking a few nights at a place with a swimming pool. Terlingua Ranch
Lodge offers budget friendly accommodations, which is perfect for
families. The Lajitas Golf Resort in Lajitas & the Gage Hotel in
Marathon offer various spa services, fun activities and large pools with
plenty of comfortable seating around the deck. Make sure to bring sun
hats, sunscreen and floats for the kids!
Hiking Recommendations
The
Mesa de Anguila trail in Big Bend National Park often gets confused for
Horseshoe Bend in Colorado, and rightfully so. We have spoken to
several people about the misclassification of photos online. Big Bend is
named for the curve that the Rio Grande river makes, and the Mesa de
Anguila hike illustrates that perfectly. Being the least visited areas
of the park we recommend hiking with pants, since the trail is not well
worn. If you find yourself getting lost along the way, remember to stay
right, which will get you to the scenic overlook. We strongly recommend
against doing the full loop since it's a gruesome 14 miles, and instead
suggest starting with the 3 miles (approx.) up and back route to the
overlook. The hike is steep, and there are no water sources along the
way. NPS recommends getting a detailed topographical map.
Until Next Time Amigos!
