13 February 2018 --Vol. 29, #7
This week’s Moon brought to you by Ghost Writers on the Sly.
Brown Dog (née Dodger) 1/21/2003(?) – 2/6/2018
Brown Dog embodied the true spirit of Terlingua - resourceful, low maintenance and adventuresome. He even upped the game by adding composed and classy to the mix. He served as unofficial Mayor, ambassador and muse - inspiring songs and tales. Our quiet and kind being is rambling through the Milky Way now, cruising with fellow Terlinguans. (I bet chasing stars is even more fun than chasing rabbits). Don’t forget to look up and say “Hey” to our little buddy, and to practice Brown Doggin' It, because it is a thing!
Has was interred in his beloved desert. His memory will be forever cherished by people and dogs from coast to coast. Happy trails Brown Dog! When you’re Brown, it’s hard to be blue (Tim Relleva, Brown Dog)

We use things for as long as we possibly can and that includes our vehicles. Antonio specializes in repairing these old cars and trucks. He also has the ability to tell you when you might be wiser to invest in a newer car verses putting more money into the old one. He can give you the information, but the choice is always up to you. Give us a call at (432)371-2694 or text us at (432) 294-0128, it is never too late to take action.

Friday, March 2, 2018 @ 5:30 PM
Come celebrate the 182nd anniversary of Texas Independence from Mexico with the annual impromptu parade between the Porch and the High Sierra celebrating the sacrifices of those who won our freedom that has been so easily forgotten by native Texans and unknown by the naturalized and visitors. The parade is scheduled to begin around 5:30 P.M. (but is notoriously late) at the Porch. The route will leave for the High Sierra, then turn around back to the Porch. Gathering for the parade will be at any time necessary for the preparation of your “float” to make the 5:30 start. Please try to attend with a float or just as a spectator.
Earth and Fire Gallery welcomes long time - REALLY LONG TIME! - resident John Sufficool back for a two week show of his unique art work starting Feb. 16th. Known for his large outdoor installations and classic art cars (remember Geronimos Cadallac and La Cucharacha?), John brings to the gallery a body of smaller works and statuary suitable for inside display for this show. Join us for a classic John campfire "Party On" opening gala the evening of Feb 16th starting about 6:30 pm.

Slim Fest thRee
As Slim always said, "Are you having fun?" Well, thanks to the 175 extended family members of Slim Richey's who came out for Slim Fest thRee and had a blast! There really is no way to put into words how incredible it was to once again honor Slim in such a beautiful way. Many of you remember when the Starlight had no roof. Well, there was a couple at Slim Fest - just so happened to be long time friends of Slim and his wife Francie. They were married at The Starlight when it had no roof and we were surprised it had one at the end of this weekend between Guy Forsyth's Hot Nut Riveters, Dana Louise and The Glorious Birds, Carolyn Wonderland and all the other wonders in between.
We'd also like to give a HUGE shout out to the Starlight Staff and the Slim Fest volunteers. They were simply amazing.
Finally, if you missed Sunday Brunch, the spillover onto the Porch and Open Mic - gawd was it epic. The Alan Munde Band for Brunch - no way to describe all the brilliance on the porch - and talent out of this world for Open Mic. Literally. Can't name them all the list was endless (truly - we had to close it off) but mind-blowing performances by Chris Baker, our very own Violator - Charlotte Teer, Clem's grandchildren - Asa & Auve (watch out world); Charlie Maxwell in one of the early-on highlights of the night; the amazing Nevada Newman; Jacob Alan Jaeger; Greg Harkins (or was that Slim?), Beth Asmussen (whose voice can also blow that roof off); Bobby McHugh from North Carolina with a rendition of Cumblerland Gap that would do any fiddler proud and got the toes tappin' and the hands clappin'); John Grubbs, Alex Whitmore, Carol Whitney, Marcia Ewell; Pat O'Bryan's you've-got-to-be-kidding-me band of himself, Greg Harkins, Jacob Jaeger, Chris Baker and Frona Farrelly; and you'll never believe who showed up to close off Slim Fest thRee - it couldn't have been more perfect - GUY FORSYTH, JESKA BAILEY FORSYTH AND NEVADA NEWMAN!!!! No joke!! As Butch Hancock says (and one of Slim's dear friends) What A Planet!!!!
Two years ago, a guy just happened to be in town from Minnesota, heard about the little festival and bought a ticket. The next year he came back with his wife and again this year. Last year several couples stumbled upon it from New Mexico, Colorado and California and they were back this year. This year people bought tickets in advance from Oregon and British Columbia. That's the kind of magic Slim worked - bringing people together for the love of music. And having fun. We'd give anything to still have Slim here and not hold this party in his honor - he may be gone in one way but we think he would be proud of the way his music lives on; especially on what would have been his 80th birthday. Viva Terlingua! Viva Slim!
Shilo is just under a year old and she is a super sweet border collie or maybe heeler mix. Small in size (30 lbs) and a little shy at first, Shilo warms up quickly with gentle voices, loving hands, and a bouncing ball. She’s an awesome, high energy gal!
