NATIONAL VOTER REGISTRATION DAY
Please publicize this event.  Really, it should be an ongoing thing, but this week and this month are a great time to start.  It’s not a one-day thing, but tomorrow is the reminder.
In putting out the word it’s important to remind people to FIRST make sure YOUR voter registration is up to date with your address, etc.  If you don’t have one apply for a new one.  In counties that have an Elections Administrator they are the Voter Registrars.  In Brewster County our EA is Irma Ramirez and she is located at the County Courthouse (432-837-9230).  In other counties without an EA, either the Tax Assessor-Collector or the County Clerk is the Voter Registrar.
Beyond getting your own registration up to date, some may be interested in registering others to vote.  You can do that by becoming a Deputy Voter Registrar.  Sign up for that at your county’s Voter Registrar.
Voter registration is a non-partisan activity.  Never before has it been as important for everyone to exercise this right.  Use it or eventually you may loose it.  Su vota es su voz!  Your vote is your vote! Mary Bell Lockhart, Brewster County Democratic Party Chair

HYPER REACH
Brewster County, TX Selects Emergency Notification Provider , Hyper-Reach Chosen to Help Protect Lives and Property
09/19/2017/ Rochester, NY
Telephone-based mass notifications systems are used by thousands of public safety agencies across the US to warn citizens about local emergencies, hazards and other threats.  Now Brewster County announces that they have selected Hyper-Reach to help bring this same life-saving capability to the area.  The county expects to have the service fully operational by the end of October 2017.
The new emergency alert system will provide rapid notification of hazardous and urgent situations using a mix of telephone calls, text and email messages, and even TTY/TDD service for the hearing impaired.  In addition, Hyper-Reach provides Brewster County with access to the Wireless Emergency Alert system developed by FEMA, enabling broadcast text messages to most mobile phones made since 2011.  And there’s a free smartphone app for iPhones and Android devices that allows users to display and organize messages for specific addresses that are important to them.
“Our job is to protect the citizens of Brewster County as effectively and cost-effectively as possible.” said Dave Lambrix, Emergency Management Coordinator and Judge Eleazar Cano, County Judge for Brewster County.  “We reviewed all the major vendors for emergency notification service, and Hyper-Reach gave us everything we needed at an unbelievable price.  We’re really excited about this new capability.”
Hyper-Reach is a state of the art mass emergency notification system designed specifically for public safety.  The system sends thousands of telephone calls, SMS text messages and emails to geographically targeted households in seconds. A new feature sends broadcast messages to most current mobile telephones in an affected area.  And Hyper-Reach Anywhere is a smartphone app lets people monitor their home, office and other addresses they care about.
The County plans to use the service primarily for alerts about weather and environmental hazards, criminal activity, fires and missing persons.  Landline phones are automatically enrolled, but mobile phones are only included when people enroll.  Residents and people who work in Brewster County are encouraged to enroll now by going to the website http://www.usnear.org.  A county-specific enrollment page will also be available in the next few days. The internet access will be: http://hyper-reach.com/txbrewstersignup.html. We have also arranged a call in number for those without internet: 432-547-9951.
“We’re honored to have been selected by Brewster County to provide its emergency alerts,” said Sam Asher, President of Hyper-Reach.  “It’s gratifying to be part of an effort to save lives and protect property and we take that responsibility very seriously.”
About Brewster County Office of Emergency Management

About Hyper-Reach
