December 2 is a big day for Terlingua-- National Mutt Day and Bartender Appreciation Day!
Breed a Boxer with a German Shorthaired Pointer, you get Boxershorts. Breed a Bulldog with a Shih Tzu and you get a Bullshitz. Breed a Deerhound with a terrier, you get a Derriere. True to the end! Breed a Pointer with an Irish Setter, you get a Pointsetter. A traditional Christmas Pet.
--Good Dog! Magazine
He wa'n't no common dog, he wa'n't no mongrel; he was a composite. A composite dog is a dog that is made up of all the valuable qualities that's in the dog breed—kind of a syndicate; and a mongrel is made up of all riffraff that's left over.
Mark Twain

PAISANO POST FROM TERLINGUA SCHOOL
Congratulations to the Junior High Boys' and Girls' Basketball teams, Coach Dodd, and Coach Valenzuela on their overtime victory against Alpine Christian School. Before the Thanksgiving break, the high school teams both lost to the Sanderson Eagles during their away games on 11/18th. Their 1st home games will be Dec. 19th starting at 6pm against Sierra Blanca. Mrs. Reed and Coach Rodriguez took the Sophomores and High school basketball players on a Field trip on Nov. 20th to watch the Sul Ross Men's team beat the ASU squad. Thanks to Mr. Rockland Owens, Upward Bound advisor for Sul Ross, for helping coordinate this college experience. Thank you to Ms. Betty Reed for giving and coordinating donations of $150 in memory of her son. These funds went to covering expenses for the field trip of 20 students to Sul Ross. Saturday Community Market, Dec 6 Set-up Donation Waived
The first Saturday of December is already here, time flies fast at this time of year. We waive set up fees on the first Saturday of every month. Come see us at the Saturday Community Market, open from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Located at the Community Garden in the Ghost Town, we're here every Saturday with happy vendors offering an array of locally produced goods and other items. You'll also be able to enjoy our fabulous local mobile library and portable free ‘porch’, even consult with Dr. Gigabyte if you have a computer problem.
Local art, handcrafted textile goods, fresh eggs, sour dough bread, all natural lip balms and skin care products, all natural essential oil fragrances, beard oil and massage oils, handcrafted, creative jewelry, resin creations, block printed textiles and vintage goods, both curated and upcycled, practical and artistic items made of reclaimed steel and more -- you never know just what or who you'll find here.
Flea market items are also welcome. After all, reusing and up-cycling already existing items is smart and green. We ask a $10 donation to the Community Garden to set up, helping us to continue to improve this space and experience for all of us.
We welcome new vendors. To make it easy for new vendors to try our market and to show our appreciation to our regular vendors, we waive set-up fees on the first Saturday of the month, offering free set-up on that day.
For more information, text or call 432.213.1863 or pop in at the market for a chat. Prepared food vendors must display current food handling license. (A quick, easy and affordable online course can provide that).
Please help keep our market space safe and comfortable for all, two-legged and four, by keeping all dogs leashed and under control. We look forward to seeing you there.
