Happy New Year! Set up fees waived for the first Saturday of January. Join our regular vendors and sell your stuff at our weekly Saturday Community Market, open from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Located at the Community Garden in the Ghost Town, we're here every Saturday with happy vendors offering an array of locally produced goods and other items. You'll also be able to enjoy our fabulous local mobile library and portable free ‘porch’, even consult with Dr. Gigabyte if you have a computer problem.

Local art, handcrafted textile goods, sour dough bread, all natural lip balms and skin care products, all natural essential oil fragrances, beard oil and massage oils, handcrafted, creative jewelry, resin creations, block printed textiles and vintage goods, both curated and upcycled, practical and artistic items made of reclaimed steel and more -- you never know just what or who you'll find here.

Flea market items are also welcome. After all, reusing and up-cycling already existing items is smart and green. We ask a $10 donation to the Community Garden to set up, helping us to continue to improve this space and experience for all of us.

We welcome new vendors. To make it easy for new vendors to try our market and to show our appreciation to our regular vendors, we waive set-up fees on the first Saturday of the month, offering free set-up on that day.

For more information, text or call 432.213.1863 or pop in at the market for a chat. Prepared food vendors must display current food handling licence. (A quick, easy and affordable online course can provide that).

A BOOK! Long-time Brewster & Presidio County Author Announces the Arrival of His Second Novel
Marfa, TX – Local independent author Stuart Bradley George announces the release of his second novel, Cheshire Cat Moon on the High Frontier: A Petitioner’s Yearlong Saga, In Three Acts. It is a wickedly funny, intelligent and provocative but altogether relatable work of contemporary homegrown Texana, and the responses thus far have been without exception outstanding. In fact, if you’ve been fortunate enough to  have lived in this far-flung corner of the world for any length of time over the last fifty years, there’s a good chance you know of someone who experienced at least one long, memorable, sleep deprived, overnight shift prevailing amongst the adolescent felons at the High Frontier Treatment Ranch & School....

“Living and working in the Big Bend Region for more than thirty years has deeply influenced my writing,” says Mr. George. “Especially with this one... So I’m excited to finally have a chance to share this essential tale of forfeiture and redemption with my friends all across the Trans-Pecos and the frontier borderlands.”

A stark, profound, sincerely (gasp!) funny book...
Eloquent and exudes authenticity...
A talented writer of the memento mori, a form that can remind us of life by noting its transience.
[George is] a force of nature, a one-man gang. He sees wisdom and has a talent for imparting wisdom....
Enchanting, incandescent...

Cheshire Cat Moon on the High Frontier will be offered exclusively at the Hotel Paisano Book/Gift Shop in Marfa beginning on New Years Eve 2026 ($24.99 softcover/$39.99 hardback). Now on Kindle ($9.99). Available soon through independent-minded outlets all across Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. Or contact publishingredcat@gmail.com for postage-paid copies, special offers, and/or bulk rates. For advance proofs of the manuscript or interview requests, please call or text Lisa Louise George directly at 432.244.8026.

MEMORIUM

John Clinton Hoyt, (aka Quicksilver) December 22, 1939 ~ November 30 2025.

John was born and lived most of his life in Texas.  After an idyllic childhood in Columbus he lived in Houston for many years and was a graduate of the University of Texas in Austin.  In recent years he shared a home with Shelley, his wife of 32 years, in Arroyo Hondo, New Mexico.  During his time in Arroyo Hondo he loved visiting the Native American pueblos and learning about the history and cultures of small towns in northern New Mexico.  John enjoyed the Taos arts community and volunteered at several galleries and museums.

He and Shelley enjoyed climbing most of the highest peaks in the area, including 13,167 foot Wheeler Peak.  John was an avid backpacker who loved to share stories about his adventures in the back country of Big Bend, which he dearly loved to explore, and in the nearby mountains in Mexico.

He and companions got lost after a dispute with their guide in the bottom of Mexico's Copper Canyon, which he visited often. It was a close call and they only left the canyon with the help of a Tarahamara who strolled through their camp with a boom box on his shoulder in the night and pointed out the trail the next morning. They also barely escaped a major flash flood in Butler Wash in Utah when the water rose 19 feet into their camp and they were forced to follow a park ranger on a climb up a nearly vertical canyon wall to safety.

John was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was among the first nuclear waste disposal specialists the Navy trained, and being an experienced SCUBA diver, he was sent to Lake Pendoreille, the deepest lake in Idaho, to recover waste the navy had dumped into the lake.

John openly shared his hospice experience on Facebook and had a devoted group of friends and admirers who were deeply touched by his journey. His many friends and followers on Facebook who enjoyed his haikus and photographs will sorely miss him. John is survived by Shelley and by sons Paul, John W., and Michael along with numerous granchildren.

Event benefiting Terlingua Cares, a nonprofit organization under the BBCA, providing emergency funds to locals for various needs, including surgery, car accidents, and replacement of livelihood equipment, among other essential expenses. This annual event is being brought back to life with over fifteen musicians/artists/bands donating their time. Silent auction, cash donations, and real cool vibes as we support our effort as a community to sustain each other, as is the way of our people. Please contact Kate at 903-571-8384 if you'd like to donate something for the silent auction. This nonprofit has been supported by two private donors for over a year due to a lack of fundraising. Let's inject our love straight into the veins of this community, so that our funds are available, not through delayed GoFundMes, but rather through a system pre-built to help and uplift. Earlier sets will be performed at The Temple of the Bird starting around 12PM. Later sets will be at The Boathouse starting at 3PM Terlingua Time.  See ya there, wild ones!

In conjunction with our Brown Santa Program, Sheriff Dodson and Brewster County Deputies will be in Study Butte, at the J.W. “Red” Pattillo  Community Center, on Tuesday, December 23, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. XtRa xTrA Parades Going away party

This coming Sunday Funday, please join us at The Temple of the Bird saying goodbye to 2 of the coolest people to have graced this community for over 40 years. They are moving to Taos but they have so many stories to share and hugs to give, so we are going to fire up the newly aquired smoker and make a day of it. Please bring a side dish, your own beer and clean middle finger and lets show these 2 how much we're gonna miss them. I'm going to set up the PA and encourage a daytime open mic and the festivities will begin around 1 pm and go until we're tired at looking at one another. — with Marcos Paredes and Susan Paredes.
