VETERANS DAY BREAKFAST
Big Bend High School
Our annual Veterans Day celebration and breakfast kicks off at 8:30am. All veterans and their guest are invited. Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you on Tuesday.
ARCHIE GILL
Thank you all for your prayers for Archie Gill. Dad passed peacefully in Abilene late Friday, 10/31. As he was blessed in life, he was blessed in death with several family members near him. He was a strong man with strong beliefs who raised two strong daughters, Diana and Mandy and found love with Jill O'Neal in his final years of life. We are thankful for his life, love and knowledge. We hoping to put together a memorial service but have no idea of details yet.
JIM CARRICO
James Walter Carrico (Jim), long-time resident of the Big Bend area, passed away on November 1, 2025 in Fort Stockton, Texas. He was 91 years old.
Jim was born on October 30, 1934 in Dover, Ohio to Walter L. Carrico and Helen Carroll Carrico. He was a graduate of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where he met Virginia (Ginny) Galloway. They were married in June 1956.
After completing service in the United States Marine Corps, Jim got a job with the National Park Service at Mesa Verde National Park in 1960. He spent the next 30 years working in National Parks throughout the United States. His last assignment was as Superintendent at Big Bend National Park. After retiring from the National Park Service, Jim worked for Texas Parks & Wildlife at Big Bend Ranch State Park and was later a partner at Desert Sports in Terlingua.
Jim is survived by his wife of 69 years, Ginny, his two daughters, Lisa and Marge (Jim Traylor) and one son Pete (Karen), four grandchildren and one great grandchild.
No services are planned at this time. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.

THANKSGIVING DINNER
The Family Crisis Center of the Big Bend in the Ghost Town Is delighted to invite all in the community to our annual Community Thanksgiving Lunch. Thursday, November 20th from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Sponsored by Big Bend Chamber of Commerce.
COMMUNITY MARKET
Come see us at the Saturday Community Market, open from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Located at the Community Garden in the Ghost Town, we're here every Saturday with happy vendors offering an array of locally produced goods and other items. You'll also be able to enjoy our fabulous local mobile library and portable free ‘porch’, even consult with Dr. Gigabyte if you have a computer problem.
Local art, handcrafted textile goods, fresh eggs, sour dough bread, all natural lip balms and skin care products, all natural essential oil fragrances, beard oil and massage oils, handcrafted, creative jewelry, resin creations, block printed textiles and vintage goods, both curated and upcycled, practical and artistic items made of reclaimed steel and more -- you never know just what or who you'll find here.
Flea market items are also welcome. After all, reusing and up-cycling already existing items is smart and green. We ask a $10 donation to the Community Garden to set up, helping us to continue to improve this space and experience for all of us.
We welcome new vendors. To make it easy for new vendors to try our market and to show our appreciation to our regular vendors, we waive set-up fees on the first Saturday of the month, offering free set-up on that day.
For more information, text or call 432.213.1863 or pop in at the market for a chat. Prepared food vendors must display current food handling licence. (A quick, easy and affordable online course can provide that).
Please help keep our market space safe and comfortable for all, two-legged and four, by keeping all dogs leashed and under control. We look forward to seeing you there.
