HOLIDAY CHEER ALERT! ‑‑ As the holiday season rolls in, we at Terlingua Fire and EMS want to remind you to keep safety at the top of your wish list!  Did you know that cooking fires are the leading cause of home fires during the holidays?  Let’s keep those flames under control!  Whether you're decking the halls or frying up those holiday treats, remember to stay alert and safe.

NIGHT SKY FRIENDLY LIGHTING RECOGNITION PROGRAM ‑‑ McDonald Observatory recognizes our neighbors that help protect our night sky by following recommended outdoor lighting practices.  Thank you to the residents, businesses, and organizations who are Night Sky Friendly!

Night Sky Friendly outdoor lighting keeps light on the ground and out of the sky, helping to preserve the exceptional night skies Far West Texas is famous for.  It’s also better for business:  night sky friendly lighting designs improve visibility and safety, and can be more cost effective than traditional designs.  Recipients of the Night-Sky Friendly recognition receive two 5" x 5" window stickers, an 11" x 17" poster to display, and will be recognized here and in local media where appropriate.  For more information, visit McDonald Observatory Recognition Program.

PARK CLOSURE ‑‑ Fort Davis National Historic Site will be CLOSED on New Year's Day, Wednesday, January 1, 2025.  We will reopen on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at 8 a.m.  Happy New Year!

THE LAST OUTPOST ‑‑ The Last Outpost #653 will be CLOSED on New Year's Day.  We apologize for any inconvenience and will reopen on January 2, 2025, for business as usual.

TERLINGUA RECYCLING ‑‑ Don't forget, next Saturday the 4th we'll be open again.  And I've already been told to be there and get ready for the holiday stuff coming in.  9 to 11 as usual.  I think our customers are getting a bit bossy but that's OK.  They get bossy and we get grouchy.  At our age we've got lots of practice!  And don't forget to park properly and not a half mile away.  And don’t forget the cookies!

PIONEER REUNION ‑‑ Big Bend Natural History Association's 32nd Annual Pioneer Reunion is taking place on Saturday, February 1st in the Panther Junction community room.  Tickets go on sale Thursday, January 2nd, and will be $25 each or $20 each for BBNHA members.  Call 432-477-2236 or visit the Panther Junction bookstore to purchase.  The event will be from 11:00 am - 4:00 pm and will include a light lunch from 11:00-12:00.  Speakers include Laura Rice Bridge, Todd Bureau, cowboy poet Joel Nelson, and BBNP superintendent Anjna O'Connor.  We hope to see you there!

SATURDAY COMMUNITY MARKET ‑‑ Come see us at the Saturday Community Market from 10:00-1:00.  Located at the Community Garden in the Ghost Town, we're here every Saturday with happy vendors offering an array of locally produced goods and other items.

Local art, handcrafted textile goods, goat milk soap, all natural lip balms and skin care products, essential oil perfumes, leather goods, handcrafted, creative jewelry, block printed textiles and vintage goods, both curated and up-cycled, practical and artistic items made of reclaimed steel and more -- you never know just what or who you'll find here.

We welcome new vendors.  Flea market items are also welcome.  After all, reusing and up-cycling already existing items is smart and green.  We ask a $10 donation to the Community Garden to set up, helping us to continue to improve this space and experience for all of us.  For more information, text or call 432.213.1863, email SherriTheWriter@aol.com or pop in to the market for a chat.  Prepared food vendors must display current food handling license.  (A quick, easy and affordable online course can provide that).

MILKY WAY TREATS ‑‑ The Milky Way Treats ice cream trailer will be open this weekend, Sat-Mon, 4pm-9pm.  Stop by for a fun sundae or homemade pint of ice cream.  The bakery cart will not be open for the month of January (break time!).  Gracias, Terlingua!

TERLINGUA RANCH PROPERTY OWNERS’ POTLUCK ‑‑ The January 2nd potluck is canceled due to the holiday.  The next potluck will be Thursday, February 6th.  Happy New Year!
