Sarah (Whitson) Bourbon

September 12, 1946 ~ March 30, 2023 (age 76)

Obituary

Sarah Whitson Bourbon, 76 of Terlingua, Texas passed away on March 30, 2023 at her home in Terlingua, TX. 

Sarah was born September 12, 1946 to Caroline and John Whitson in Denton, TX. Sarah graduated from Denton High School, and later attended University of North Texas where she gained a bachelor's degree in Arts in 1970. In 1980 she became Managing Director of Texas Monthly. During her tenure at Texas Monthly she discovered the Big Bend and fell in love with the area. Soon after, she met and married Bill Bourbon on February 1, 1987. 

Sarah was an avid bird watcher. She never passed up the chance to visit a Goodwill, always in hopes of a good bargain. She loved cuisine of all cultures. She loved her pets, family, friends, and all things nature. 

Sarah is preceded in death by her husband Bill Bourbon. Sarah is survived by two sons, Brian Bourbon of Alpine, TX. Michal Bourbon of Weir, TX, and a grandson Logan Bourbon, Alpine, TX. 

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations made in her name to Terlingua CSD robotics building.

Our next show is "Dark Skies", curated by Kathleen Griffith and Cynthia Huryat.  Prospectus is attached.  Entry deadline is April 18th.  All mediums are welcome.


The R3 Art Show/Not Prada Show has been very successful, thanks to Lori Griffin and her crew!  The show ends on April 18th so, if you have work in the show, please pick up by the 18th and sign out your work with the artist manning the gallery when you do.

The 1000th animal done at the pop up Big Bend Fix clinic Friday by the amazing staff from Animal Balance …..drumroll please——is a Big Bend TNR cat from a Marfa colony!!! Thank you to everyone who does this vital work to make this happen for Far West Texas!! Special thanks to our trappers, who not only trap these free-roaming cats but also give their time to volunteer at the clinic to help in recovery. We are so proud of what we have accomplished with your help

The Terlingua Bottoms Group of AA meets every Thursday at 7:30 at the Big Bend Church in Study Butte.  The meetings are open to anyone who has or thinks they may have a drinking problem.


The Terlingua Double A Bar Group will hold an AA meetings on Tuesdays from 5:00 pm to 6 pm at the Crisis Center in the Ghost Town.
