Last Friday 3/24/23, the Terlingua CSD robotics team, 11720 - Purobots, traveled to Belton, TX to compete in the UIL State robotics competition. They competed against twenty-three 1A to 4A schools in their division. At the end of the day the Purobots placed 10th among those teams. The semi-finals competition is played among the top 4 teams that get to pick two robots from the remaining field to be their alliance partners. The first place team, Dimmit (3A) picked Muleshoe (3A) and the Purobots (1A) for their final alliance. The Purobots played the 2nd match and won, 179 - 162, which advanced our alliance teams to the Finals! The students took home a 2nd place trophy and silver medals. Congratulations to Seniors: Ethan Ramirez and Giselle Hernandez; Juniors: Laila Salido, Severino Alday Franco, Jen Orozco, and Romina Rodriguez; Sophomores: Brooke Jenks, Luna Barrett, Rigo Guevara and Evan Clark. The Purobots are coached by Mr. Brad Anthenat.
It has been quite a ride for the robotics team this year after losing their robotics lab to fire a week before the regional competition, regrouping and then medaling at state. The Purobots like to thank our wonderful community for all the support and donations before and after the fire. The t-shirt fundraiser was a success raising over $1,500. Area schools, individuals, and businesses donated money, parts, and tools stepping in to help when it was very needed. Terlingua can not be any prouder of our students and our community, sharing in the success of the Purobots.
