“Awe is the moment when ego surrenders to wonder. This is our inheritance - the beauty before us. We cry. We cry out. There is nothing sentimental about facing the desert bare. It is a terrifying beauty.”

Summer drinks are arriving by the TRUCKLOAD!!! Lone Star has the newest addition to the Hard Seltzer Craze and they chose to do it right ....with Blue Agave Nectar! Yep, you read that right, these new Hard Seltzers are sweetened with Blue Agave Nectar. Two flavors - Agave Lime and Agave Watermelon.
And the fun does not stop there. We also brought in Bacardi Canned Cocktails that we had a very fun tasting party for. These babies won full staff approval. Rum Punch, Mojito (that Jana says pass the test!), and Limon y Lemonade. Oh, and Cazadores Margaritas with Orange Liqueur - in yummy regular or SPICY. These Margaritas ain’t no sissy fake ‘Rita’s. Nope .... they are muy sabroso! The supply was limited for the rollout - DO NOT WAIT or you will miss them.
We are open Monday thru Saturday 10-9. As always - PLEASE DRINK RESPONSIBLY
If you own or operate a nightly rental(s) in the Big Bend and are interested in giving your guests an opportunity to participate in a brief survey about the importance of protecting dark skies in the Big Bend, a form is available to place in your rentals. It's a short poll, just four questions, and can help gather data about how many of our visitors come here specifically to enjoy our night skies. To request a printable pdf form, email rreadydog@hotmail.com. Included will be instructions about how to submit the data you help to collect.
Earth and Fire Gallery
We are pleased to welcome to the Gallery, our Guest Artist, Richard D. Curtin.
" Inspired by the austere landscape, this city boy is mesmerized by the west Texas wide-open spaces and the shapes the sun creates by bathing the objects below, even the clouds cast shadows! The mountains miles away or the cactus at my feet, the inspiration for my painting is right in front of me.
Having graduated with a BFA from Auburn University and after a very successful entertainment career, I return to my passion of painting and earned an MA from Sul Ross State University in my semi-retirement in my new home of Alpine, Texas. Reigniting my passion and artistic style with an emphasis on the landscape, its inhabitants and its manmade elements telling stories of how we coexist with nature and its beauty.
Like the cow in the desert, I am so happy in my new environment under the huge sky enjoying the sun, the clouds during the day and the abundance of stars at night. What I see around me keeps me looking up, smiling and painting."

INCREASED RESERVATIONS FOR BIG BEND CAMPGROUNDS
With record visitation comes increased demand for campsites. To reduce the frustration of driving all the way to Big Bend, only to find that all campground sites are full, the National Park Service will be increasing the number of Big Bend campsites available for advanced reservations online.

THANKS, Brewster County for Shots in Arms! Great start!
Thank you all for coming out to the town hall meeting on Saturday to learn about dark sky efforts in the Big Bend. It was really positive and I appreciated the opportunity to hear everyone's perspectives, I learned a lot. Over the next several months, if things continue to improve with the pandemic, I am going to slowly start reviving the Terlingua Dark Sky Alliance (part of Big Bend Citizen's Alliance). The town hall was a great start and lets me know that the community is behind this initiative.
For starters, here is the link to the International Dark Sky Association website. https://www.darksky.org/
- As we discussed, you will find printable brochures under the Resources tab. You can print them yourselves or they will send out free brochures if you ask.
Thanks again and it was great to see so many faces in person!
Let me know if you have any questions.
