THEL LATE MOON. Sorry, Life Happened!

Are you Vote Ready? Tuesday, September 24th is National Voter Registration Day and Volunteer Deputy Registrars will help you register to vote. Come to Forever Resorts/Motor Inn Store porch from 8AM to 10AM and at Cottonwood General Store porch from 10AM to 4PM. Did you know that the fourth Tuesday of September is a National Holiday established in 2012 to celebrate our democracy? National Voter Registration Day is endorsed by the National  Association of Secretaries of State (NASS), and supported by the  National Association of State Election Directors (NASED), the US Election Assistance Commission (EAC), and the National Association of  Election Officials (The Election Center). More info: https://nationalvoterregistrationday.org/about/. The Texas Secretary of State web site is https://www.sos.state.tx.us/
Register in September to vote in November!

Did you know that there is a State-wide election on November 5, 2019? Yeah, there is.   See: https://my.lwv.org/texas/election-information  for info on the Constitutional Amendments to be voted on. Almost NO ONE VOTES in these elections, so they go however the few people who know about them and really want to CHANGE things, OR keep things the SAME want them to go. It's a lot of convoluted 'stuff' to read, but you have six or so weeks to digest it! VOTE!!! VOTE!!! VOTE!!! [But FIRST, THINK, THINK, THINK!!!!]

American Legion District 16 South Zone Commander Dave Lambrix presented the flag on Terlingua behalf.

Post requested by a local.  This person is a relative, known to them to be a “very good person and very responsible.  The FBI won’t investigate because there is no crime involved. We are worried for his safety.” Locals, please keep your eyes open for him or the vehicle.

SHINING A LIGHT ON OUR DARK SKY HEROES:  On behalf of the Terlingua Dark Sky Alliance, Many Thanks to those in the Ghost Town/Study Butte area for showing outstanding community leadership and preserving our view of the night skies by dimming the night lights down:  Far Flung Outdoor Center, Big Bend River Tours, Desert Sports, Terlingua Fire and EMS, Nuevo Terlingua, Villa Terlingua, Taqueria Milagro, Starlight Theater, Posada Milagro guesthouses, Cottonwood General Store, Gallery Chisos, Rio Aviation, Earth and Fire Gallery,  Retro Rents, Terlingua School.  IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE A DARK SKY HERO, Contact Amber Harrison at bigbenddarksky@gmail.com. Amber has free printed information and is available for a free consultation on how to change your lighting to be SAFE and ECONOMICAL. Sometimes a simple adjustment is all that is needed.  If you've been overlooked in this list, and are dark sky compliant, please email/message Molly Dumas at mollyd57@hotmail.com. If you are unsure if you are dark sky compliant, contact Amber. Visit the International Dark Sky Association webpage: https://www.darksky.org/ for more information.
Finally, we’d like to give a special thanks to Brewster County Sheriff, Ronny Dodson, Terlingua Ranch residents, and Rio Grande Electric for working together to improve community lighting.
[Editor’s Note: Being Night Sky Friendly does not mean no lights outside.  We have plenty of lighting for nighttime safety and also have no night sky UNFRIENDLY lighting.  Easy, and actually cheaper once you understand what works and what doesn’t. TRY IT!]

The Terlingua Bottoms Group of AA meets every Thursday at 7:30 at the Big Bend Church in Study Butte.  The meetings are open to anyone who has or thinks they may have a drinking problem.

Uh Memorial, October 19, a Saturday.
Clem requested that we all get together once he passed and watch the sunset on the Chisos, play some music, and drink some beer. I will be working out the details in the next few weeks, but want to get the word out so people can make arrangements to come. We might need to have kegs and food in the horseshoe pits, but either way we can meet at the porch in the Terlingua Ghost Town. I’m thinking 4:00ish, I think sunset is around 7:20pm. Please bring a chair, potluck dish, musical instruments, and something you would like to read or share... *all of those are optional!
I will update this as we make decisions. I made it public so please share and feel free to make suggestions.
Look forward to seeing you there!
Susan Rothelle

All Energies Tip of the Week! Inverters come in two sine waves: “Modified” and “Pure” sine wave. Pure sine wave is what the electrical utility delivers. Modified Sine wave is the less expensive option, and is similar but different. When using modified sine wave, motors will run hotter, turn slower and make more noise. Power supplies will also run hotter and some devices will not turn on at all! Some of the best Pure sine wave inverters actually deliver a better waveform than the power company. Modified sine wave inverters are fine for non-critical applications, but understanding the difference is important to making an educated purchase. If you need help making your solar system work better, email casey@allenergies.net or call/text 432-242-1874.
