This week's musical lineup:
Tuesday: The Goats of Clay Henry!
...not really a band, more of a small herd or gathering of musicians of like minds. Drawing inspiration (and name) from the past mayor of Lajitas, they are steeped in the past yet not afraid of what's new in the pasture. Kind of a mix of psychedelic country... expect to hear anything from the Grateful Dead to the Austin Lounge Lizards to Dan Hicks and his Hot Licks to whatever. Comprised of Terlingua locals, the goats are always welcome to visiting musicians sitting in, so one never knows what's in store at a goat gig.
Wednesday: The Whitmores
Locals, Alex & Marti are back with music that spans generations. To quote Alex, “people from the Northeast consider it country. People from Texas consider it folk. People from Nashville won't even take the shrink wrap off the cd. I describe it as Home cooked Texas style with humor for dessert.”
Thursday: Laird Considine
Laird mixes his own original tunes with most anything you want to hear from the past. Come try and stump him.
Friday: Robert Kuhn
Robert currently lives in Galveston, Houston and on the road through the Americas where he shares his unique and philosophical independent folk, blues and multilingual psyche-rock and roll Americana music. It is honest at the least and esoteric at its best.
Saturday: Alan George Duo
Singer-song writer, folk, rock and country music genre from Austin, Texas. Come hear Christopher Alan & Jimmy George tear it up.
Monday: Brandi Humberson
The return of longtime Terlingua resident Brandi Humberson. Yup, let’s fill the room for Brandi, hear of her adventures and listen to her wonderful songs. A purer voice is hard to find. Plus "A Bug's Eye View" - the art of Katy Milam – hangs through November 16. Hope to see you soon!
ESPRESSO ... Y POCO MAS!
Come see us for the best coffee (Big Bend Roasters) and cooked to order fresh food. We have a varied menu and daily specials so there's something for everyone. Breakfast and lunch. From fresh squeezed orange juice to super sandwiches to eggs the way you want them, we do it all. We've got super croissants this week so will be offering them either as a breakfast sandwich or with chicken salad. Sit in the shade, enjoy the wifi and views of the Chisos, and get together with friends ...old or new. If you're traveling through or exploring the area, we're a great place to get tips on new places to see and go.
TAQUERIA EL MILAGRO
Our newest venture, will open on Thursday, October 18th!!! We're looking forward to serving up the best tacos in the area. For now, we will be open Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 5-10 p.m. We hope you stop by next week to help us kick this off.

JOIN A HIKING CLUB
My sister, Erica, and I have started a new company here in Terlingua called Big Bend Boating and Hiking Company. We are offering river trips, guided hikes, Ghost Town Tours, and Mexico tours. Also we are trying to start a hiking club. Currently we only have 1 date per month for free guided hikes. If more interest develops in our community we will add more free hikes. We would like to give everyone the opportunity to go explore our parks with us. For the free hikes we will meet up, ride in our van, and we will pay the park entrance fees. Information is on our website www.hikingbigbend.com Announcing our first free hiking club hike! We will be hiking the Upper Burro Mesa Trail and to the Sam Neil Ranch. Come join! We will meet at Oct. 15, 9 a.m. at the picnic pavilion at the intersection of Hwy 118 and Hwy 170, across from the gas station. We will provide transportation and entrance into the national park. Please bring water, snacks, and lunch. Everyone is welcome. Visit our website for more details www.hikingbigbend.com or call 469-607-9869. Thank you, Erin and Erica Little

BETTE DAVIS HONORED IN MARFA - OCT 27
Marfa Live Arts and Starlight Entertainment present All About Bette: An Interlude with Bette Davis by El Paso playwright Camilla Carr on Saturday, October 27th, at the Crowley Theater with actor Morgana Shaw portraying Bette Davis, one of the greatest actresses in film history. “It’s an honor to play this legendary icon, to bring her to life and to share the complete person with the world,” said Ms. Shaw. When asked what she liked most about Ms. Carr’s script, she said, “Looking into Bette’s heart. She was a strong woman, but the documentaries rarely show you the love she had for her family. She’s always fighting for the truth. Her eyes do not lie.” Playwright Carr describes how Bette Davis will forever be remembered because she was “Brilliant. A fighter. It never occurred to her to ‘retire.’ She was never about being ‘liked.’ She was all about the work. This play, is about her, I hope it reflects what steep hurdles actors of her time had to jump.” Carr did extensive research to create a play that accurately depicts Davis and her life. She says “Bette knew how to fight because she had to fight not only for her life as an artist, but for her mother’s and for her sister’s.”
All About Bette: An Interlude with Bette Davis received such positive reviews in its early days that it drew the attention of Michael A. Jenkins, seven time-Tony Award winning producer of Starlight Entertainment and Managing Director Emeritus of Dallas Summer Musicals. Jenkins optioned Bette and has been producing it ever since. As Carr says “What she is eternally remembered for all over the world, are her fearless, evocative presentations of the characters she portrays on screen. This was her contribution to perfection.” Camilla Carr is an El Paso based playwright, screen & television writer, novelist, actress and a three-time recipient of the Hollywood Drama Logue Award. Carrs’s multiple award-winning, one-woman show, ALL ABOUT BETTE: An Interlude With Bette Davis starring Morgana Shaw, first premiered in Dallas at Theatre 3. Carr has also written for Academy Award recipient/nominees Holly Hunter, Amy Madigan, Brenda Blethyn, Dolly Parton and Brad Dourif.
