Later that evening as the sun goes down we will have telescopes out to look at planets and constellations. Copper Love was born on Dec. 10, 1949 and left us on Mar. 28, 2017. Copper's love affair with the Big Bend started back in the early 70's, enjoying a trip with her sister JoAnn to paint the mountains and skies that had captured her imagination and her heart.
Copper was an inspiration to those who knew her, both friends of many years, as well as those who only met her briefly. Her aura glowed with her joy of life!
Her paintings captured the drama of the vistas she set out to paint. How she loved the Big Bend sunrises and sunsets...and not another picturesque sky will go by without thinking of Copper, and feeling her in our hearts.
Her first art show in the Big Bend was back in 1989 at Dos Amigos Gallery in the Terlingua Trading Co. Followed by (not in this order) Spirit of the West Gallery, Front Street Books, Ft. Davis Drug Store Gallery, Lajitas Gallery, countless Gallery Nights/Art Walks, Dale Jensen Gallery, Diva Terlingua, Leapin' Lizard, High Sierra Bar and Grill, Earth and Fire Gallery, Starlight Theater...
Now in full circle, Copper is showing at the Terlingua Trading Co.,: Starlight from 11/10-11/18: and then following up at the Earth and Fire Gallery through the month of November.
Come join her friends, 6pm, Friday Nov. 10th, at the Starlight Theater in a celebration of Copper Love's life and art..

The 51st International Terlingua Championship Chili Cook Off officially came to a close.
People traveled from all over the world to participate in the championships and Saturday more than 400 cooks went head to head to prove they have the best chili. The Chili Appreciation Society International, is the organization behind it all. Raising funds for charities across the country with year round chili cook offs.
"CASI does 500 cooks offs thought out the United States and each one of those cook offs giving money back to that particular community also," said Richard Knight, 40 year participant.
The CASI organization raises more than one million dollars a year but the Terlingua championship brings the heat and funds the CASI national scholarship program. "Last year we probably put 25 thousand dollars back, plus the Terlingua school-we give them scholarships every year," said Richard.
Richard is the past president of the CASI organization, he said each year about eight students graduate from Terlingua and CASI gives them each a scholarship. "So the organization is a great thing to be apart of and I'm proud to be part of it," said Richard. Richard and his family have been participating in the cook offs for more than 40 years.
He said they started in Terlingua but now travel the United States for the CASI organization. Richard's wife Carol, said they have placed so many times in cook-off's, that they lost track. "CASI is an awesome organization because of the scholarships for the kids. We're having fun but we know that we are doing something good," said Carol Knight. "CASI is chili, charity, fun and that's why we do it is for the charity. To go out and give back to the community and its our way of giving back," said Kristi Knight, daughter. "We don't cook for money-for personal money, we cook for a trophy and bragging rights," said Richard. To learn more about the CASI organization, click here. [below]
