The Terlingua Moon
27 June 2017 --Vol. 28, #26

This week’s Moon brought to you by Ghost Writers on the Sly.

Water Crisis Update 27 June 2017
Water hauling efforts will continue today to provide Study Butte residents who have been without water for 10 days. The SBWSC is currently producing less than 50 gpm which is insufficient to provide the system pressure and volume needed for the community.
All residents are advised to continue water conservation while the system is being repaired.  Level 4 Water Conservation Emergency measures remains in effect and the Boil Water notice is still in effect. This means water may be used for normal household use while watering lawns, gardens, washing vehicles is prohibited.  Any water used for consumption should be boiled prior to use (see www.studybuttewater.com for details).
Bottled drinking water has been donated by numerous organizations and is available to those in need at the Brewster County Emergency Services Center in Terlingua. Drinking water remains available to those in need at the Terlingua EMS building from daily 10am to 2pm.

WATER WATER WATER ---Consider adding rain catchment to your home.
'For every 1,000 sq. ft. of roof 550 gallons of collection are possible'

This is for all who wonder about roof catchment.  [This editor has four relatively small buildings with roof catchment amounting to around 1800-2000sq ft. with tanks allowing around 12,000 gallons of roof catchment.  Mostly half to ¾ full most of the time. We sometimes have water running into our tanks in fog or heavy dew…. 10 inches (+or-) rain every year and a careful frugal life style].

Update from Lajitas:  During this time of need, Lajitas is happy to supply non-potable water to SBWSC customers. Please contact Bob Farley at 408-505-3776 in advance to make arrangements. Also, Bottled Drinking water is available at the General Store. Please bring a copy of your water bill and your own container to fill. Hours of availability are 8am-5pm daily and will be distributed based on demand so please be sure to call in advance. Shower facilities at Maverick Ranch RV park are available to SBWSC customers during this time as well-please contact the Maverick Ranch RV park at 432-424-5180 for more information.

Nessa is an extremely nice 2-year old lab mix who loves kids, walks on a leash like a dream, takes treats gently, plays fetch and will pick a tennis ball over food every time. Kids are probably her favorite demographic but she loves all things playful. She is enthusiastic with other dogs and is learning quickly at the shelter. After a quiet spell, there are again 20 dogs in the shelter and the cattery remains very close to full! For more information about any adoptable pet, please email heatherthemule@gmail.com
