PIZZA - TREE PLANTING - SPRING CLEAN – Join us at the School of Constructive Arts on Terlingua Ranch, Saturday, April 9 from Noon till Night for Spring Cleaning, Tree Planting, and Pizza!

              We will be planting trees and cleaning up the land during the day before celebrating around the fire and eating wood-fired pizza cooked in our earthen oven.

MUSIC AT MARGUERITE’S QUILTS!  (Hwy 118 in Terlingua) ‑‑ Sunday, April 10, 2-4PM.  Charlie and Judy sing your favorite old country songs on Marguerite’s porch.  Wow!  It’s been quite a while since you’ve heard Charlie’s accordion and Judy’s yodeling.  Bring a lawn chair and a cold drink, we’ll have snacks.  You can even dance in the dirt, two-step around the bougainvillea.  It’s sure to be fun!

TERLINGUA RANCH PROPERTY OWNER POTLUCK ‑‑ Join your friends and neighbors at the potluck the first Thursday of each month.  The next potluck will be April 7th, 6:00 pm, at the Bunkhouse.  The ranch will provide water, ice tea, plates, and cutlery.  Please bring a dish to share.

FINALLY ‑‑ welcome back to all of our fine-feathered friends who for the past few months had flown away to finer climates.  Waking to the call of Cactus Wrens sounding as if they can’t quite start their engines, seeing the timeless drifting of Turkey Vultures teetering over the dry desert, witnessing the flashy yellow and black of a Scott’s Oriole picking at an orange hung on a tree, reminds me of how magical this place is.  Happy Spring, y’all!  Oh yeah, and a beautiful beige and brown bull snake slithering across the ground and the slinky Blue-tailed skink and . . . . . . .

This position requires 40 hours per week in the BCTC office located in Alpine, with extensive travel including weekends and holidays. Attending travel shows, overseeing social media, assisting visiting journalists to the area along with other duties as assigned. Duties include: applicants must have some tourism experience, be highly computer-literate, have good communication skills, be able to travel, have a dependable vehicle and have a working knowledge of area attractions in Brewster County. Want to learn the basics of how to shoot the stars? Come visit McDonald Observatory for a special photo workshop led by Bettymaya Foott Photography of the IDA (and I'll be helping out too, of course). Plus, late April is peak sprite season! 

The workshop is part of the Dark Skies Festival happening at McDonald Observatory on April 29-30. Workshop tickets are available online for $75 per person. Eduardo Gonzalez Benefit

Today is the last day for the pulled pork benefit dinner for Eduardo Gonzalez to benefit his family for medical bills and travel for treatment. The dinner is today at the Party Barn starting at 11am until sold out. The dinner includes pulled pork sandwich, baked beans and potato salad. Sodas, water and desserts by donation. Caroline Gore Memorial Potluck

The memorial potluck/party for Caroline Gore will be held at her beloved place on Tuesday 3/22, 4pm until the sun says goodnight. Davis Mtns. Rendezvous Memorial Shoot

The Davis Mtns. Rendezvous George Grubb Memorial Shoot 

will be hosted by The Davis Mtns. Brigade, in Fort Davis on April 22, 23, and 24. 

It is a mountain man era themed rendezvous that is fun for the whole family, with blackpowder rifle and pistol competitions, knife and tomahawk throwing, and archery competitions with prizes and awards. 

Mountain man era attire is required for competitions, and encouraged, but not required, for spectators. There will be a primitive mountain man camping area, as well as a modern camping area, and RV’s are welcome. Craftsmen, artisans, and vendors are welcome as well. Be sure to bring plenty of water and firewood, it’s sure to be a great weekend. 

The location of the event is at The Evans Mulhern Ranch – From Fort Davis Courthouse, take highway 118 south (toward Alpine), go 2.8 miles to Evans Ranch road on the left, then follow the signs to the campsite and competition area. For questions and more information,

Paisano Post from Terlingua CSD

Upward Bound students in 9th and 10th grade participated in a Texas Success Initiative Assessment (TSIA) Boot Camp last week. The following day, they completed the TSIA college readiness exam with Mrs. Peña.

Run for Hope Event

The Devils River Run for Hope is a Marathon and Half Marathon race across the beautiful West Texas wilderness to benefit Brooke’s Blossoming Hope for Childhood Cancer Foundation, a 501c3 nonprofit that serves children battling cancer worldwide. This year we will have 3 distances: 1/2 Marathon, Marathon, 55K Ultramarathon. The date is April 23rd and more information can be found at the Devils River Run for Hope Facebook page.

Terlingua Store Yoga is now closed. 

We were unable to find Staffing to cover periods that I need to be tending to other business interests out of the region. All outstanding Services and/or Punch cards will be refunded on March 30. If you paid by Credit Card, your original card will be credited the number of punches remaining on your account. If you purchased a hard copy card with cash or check, please email me your name, mailing address, and number of punches remaining on your card so that I may get you a refund. The Terlingua Bottoms Group of AA meets every Thursday at 7:30 at the Big Bend Church in Study Butte. We wear masks during the meeting, and observe distancing.  The meetings are open to anyone who has or thinks they may have a drinking problem. If you are ill, we respectfully ask that you stay home and call for a "telephone meeting" instead, 432-371-2073. Leave a message and we'll get back to you.

Congratulations to participants of the Regional History Fair! Anthony and Asa each displayed their Exhibit entries. Luna received 2nd place in the Paper division and will advance to State in Austin. Also advancing, 1st place in the Documentary category was Brooke, Ethan, Chase, Melenie, and Kaycie. Their sponsor is Mr. Adam Daley. The State History Fair will be held at the University of Texas in Austin on April 22nd-23rd.

Santa Inez-Terlingua Ghostown Church

The Big Bend Episcopal Mission will have an Evening Prayer service on March 16th at 5pm. All are welcome. Prayer books are available in English and Spanish. 1st Wednesdays Rosary Prayer Service at 5pm and 3rd Wednesdays Evening Prayer Service at 5pm will continue through May. Services during Easter will be announced in April.
