ENJOY OUR SATURDAY COMMUNITY MARKET
Come see us at the Saturday Community Market from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Located at the Community Garden in the Ghost Town, we're here every Saturday with happy vendors offering an array of locally produced goods and other items.

Fresh eggs, local art, handcrafted textile goods, goat milk soap, all natural lip balms and skin care products, essential oil perfumes, leather goods, handcrafted, creative jewelry, block printed textiles and vintage goods, both curated and upcycled, practical and artistic items made of reclaimed steel and more -- you never know just what or who you'll find here. Indeed, lately, chess players have been meeting up for a game or two or three or...Val's pastry cart will return from summer pastry sabbatical at 10:00 a.m.

We welcome new vendors. Flea market items are also welcome. After all, reusing and up-cycling already existing items is smart and green. We ask a $10 donation to the Community Garden to set up, helping us to continue to improve this space and experience for all of us. For more information, text or call 432.213.1863, email SherriTheWriter@aol.com or pop in to the market for a chat. Prepared food vendors must display current food handling licence. (A quick, easy and affordable online course can provide that).

Please help keep our market space safe and comfortable for all, two-legged and four, by keeping all dogs leashed and under control. We look forward to seeing you there.

THANKS
I just wanted to thank all the friends-- old and new-- of the Terlingua Music Bash 2024. Organizers Jeffro Greasewood and Sharron Reed Gavin, John Whipple and Maribeth Rogers along with the great sound crew and group of volunteers put out an immense amount of work to make this successful, but it takes ALL OF US.And I am deeply grateful to have played a part. Me and Pa Misery had a fantastic time. Huge thanks to @Miss Neesie and the Tin Can Trio, and my Royal Pains: Jim Beal, Allen Elsasser and Ollie Morris. What a terrific weekend staying at The Boathouse Bar & Bungalows!!! Thanks to Greg Hammer and his crew as well!!!  I LOVE YOU ALL AND I LOVE TERLINGUA!!! Viva Terligua!!!!
-Kelli King

Cabin 10, Inc. and all the friends of the Terlingua Music Bash would like to thank the local community and our extended family of friends who supported this year's event. A special thank you to the artists, business owners, and others who donated items or their time to the silent auction which helps to fund the Mark (eYebAll) Kneeskern Memorial Scholarship. Because of your kind donations and patronage, we will once again be able to award a scholarship to at least one graduating senior of the Terlingua School.

We know that we “shared” the night with the Terlingua FireFighters and EMTs Ball and love that so many folks split their time between the two; the Ball supports one of the most important organizations in the Big Bend. DB’s Rustic BBQ hosted the Ball and hosted the Terlingua Music Bash Gospel Brunch on Sunday.  Thank you, DB!

Don’t forget to put the 29th Annual Ken & Joee Barnes Memorial Scholarship fundraiser on your calendar – November 9. Gather at the Ghostown Horseshoe Pits by 9 to get signed up for the day’s events. Finally, thank you to the Starlight Theatre and the Ivey family for allowing the Terlingua Music Bash the use of the Starlight. It was spectacular. Thanks also to Alex & Marti Whitmore, and Greg Hammer at the Boathouse, for each hosting open mic events. A great time was had by all and, once again, Terlingua proves that we may be a small community but we’ve got the biggest heart and the best people in Texas.

We are soliciting donations for the library's annual Silent Auction during Art Walk, November 22 and 23. I hope you are able to donate to our auction again this year.

Donations may be taken to the auction location at the former Guzzi Up, 202 W.  Holland, on Wednesday afternoon, November 20, or anytime on Thursday or Friday. If you can’t make it to the auction site, please take your donation to the library. All donations should be accompanied by a donation form, available at the library’s circulation desk, from me or Mary Bennett (432-386-3796; mrossbennett@gmail.com), or at the Big Bend Gallery ( forms are there).

This is our major fundraiser each year, and we count heavily on the proceeds from it to allow us to continue to serve this community as well as we have since 1947. Our patrons span eight decades and an even wider expanse of interests. We receive only 35% of our funding from governmental sources; the remaining 65% comes from library sales, businesses, grants, fundraising events, and individuals—people like you.

Your support of our Silent Auction will help us continue to fulfill our mission of working to build community, encourage literacy, and promote lifelong learning.

Terlingua Moon
Volume 35, No. 42
October 15, 2024 by FreeBird

“We lead the world because, unique among nations, we draw our people—our strength—from every country and every corner of the world.  And by doing so we continuously renew and enrich our nation.” – Ronald Reagan

THANK YOU SHELBY DRIVERS!  Saturday, October 12th ‑‑ TFEMS personnel assisted Terlingua CSD students with their annual car wash at the Shelby Time Trials at Lajita’s International Airport as well as provided EMS and Fire standby support for the races.  We are thankful to the association for inviting our department, the airport for their gracious hospitality, and all the community members and Shelby drivers for supporting Terlingua Students.

Stay safe and “¡Viva Paisanos!”

Captain J. Thomason, AEMT

Public Information Officer

HOWDY DESERT FAMILY! ‑‑ As some of you may know, I had a really bad vocal cord issue this summer and was forced to cancel all my shows.  Music is my full-time job, and being out of work for 3 months has caused me to slip into a deep financial hole.  My brother from another mother, Mike Minnick has so kindly offered to host me at his place, The Temple of The Bird, for a relief concert in efforts to help me raise funds and pull myself out of debt.  I'd really appreciate any support y'all are able to give!

My voice has finally been coming back, and although still not at 100%, I will be giving it my best and am really looking forward to singing for y'all!  I will be doing an intimate set of original music and storytelling.  This will be a special show, as I will be filling my set with some new tunes and unreleased material that no one has heard before.  These songs are some of my favorites I've written.  They are much more vulnerable and deep, and I choose not to play them in loud bars.  I'll be sharing stories behind each song and debuting them for the first time LIVE for one night only!  You likely won't hear me play these songs at a local bar, so come on out and experience something special! – Alex Teller

 TERLINGUA MOON

Vol 35 No 41

October 8, 2024

A Million sMiles

Above all, do not lose your desire to walk. Everyday, I walk myself into a state of well-being and walk away from every illness. I have walked myself into my best thoughts, and I know of no thought so burdensome that one cannot walk away from it. But by sitting still, and the more one sits still, the closer one comes to feeling ill. Thus if one just keeps on walking, everything will be all right.
