Earth and Fire Gallery

Kathleen Griffith, our Featured Artist for the Month of September lives in Alpine and is a member of Big Bend Gallery where her art is also displayed.

She is a multimedia artist, creating ceramics, fused glass and oil paintings.

She lost 100% of her art at Gallery on the Square from the fire that ravaged the gallery and other Holland Ave businesses in May of 2024.  (The new Alpine gallery opened on Sept 7 and is located on the corner of 6th and Holland.)

Kathleen often works in bright colors that make for uplifting art. Her goal is to create an experience of magic and delight for art patrons.

Her husband Tom and she have a vacation property near Chinati Hot Springs, where they immerse ourselves in total solitude and beauty.  They encourage others to visit their bnb located there where they have 280 private acres to explore.

She hopes you will stop by Earth and Fire Gallery during her art exhibit and sales through Sept 30th.

We now have some events planned through September 30, and more will be organized. We can cover more areas if we have more volunteers. If you have friends or family members who are not registered, or ones who need to change their address, they can do that at one of these events.

The General Election takes place on November 5th. More voter registration events will be scheduled between now and October 7, the last day to register to vote for the General Election. Most of this area has become barren, dry, eroded, and shadeless due to recent deforestation and over-grazing, but it's natural state is forested savannah. There are specific techniques that easily restore native trees, grasses, shrubs, perennials, forbs, and ground covers - without irrigation, fertilizer, or soil amendments.  Eco-Logic can help you do this for your property without needing to buy plants, irrigate, or amend soil.  Having gained 20 years professional landscape architecture and permaculture design experience, Eco-Logic is offering a free strategy as well as special on-site consultations to help local landowners restore their property to its best ecological health possible; you'd be surprised! The Milky Way Treats ice cream trailer will be closed this weekend, September 21 - 23rd. I’ll be out of town for a short break but will return for the following weekend! Gracias, Terlingua!

Ring at Many Stones needs a garden partner. He has the seeds, water and

garden beds. Come by and visit if you are interested.

Come see us at the Saturday Community Market from 10:00-1:00. Located at the Community Garden in the Ghost Town, we're here every Saturday with happy vendors offering an array of locally produced goods and other items.

Fresh eggs, local art, handcrafted textile goods, goat milk soap, all natural lip balms and skin care products, essential oil perfumes, leather goods, handcrafted, creative jewelry, block printed textiles and vintage goods, both curated and upcycled, practical and artistic items made of reclaimed steel and more -- you never know just what or who you'll find here. Indeed, lately, chess players have been meeting up for a game or two or three or...

We welcome new vendors. Flea market items are also welcome. After all, reusing and up-cycling already existing items is smart and green. We ask a $10 donation to the Community Garden to set up, helping us to continue to improve this space and experience for all of us. For more information, text or call 432.213.1863, email SherriTheWriter@aol.com or pop in to the market for a chat. Prepared food vendors must display current food handling licence. (A quick, easy and affordable online course can provide that).

Please help keep our market space safe and comfortable for all, two-legged and four, by keeping all dogs leashed and under control. We look forward to seeing you there.

Silent Book Club at Alcove Social

Thursday Sept. 19 at 6 PM and monthly

Welcomes all readers from the Big Bend Community to  a couple of hours of independent reading, great drinks, and a much or as little company as you like.  Think of it as an introvert Happy hour with books.  We start with 30 minutes of free time to catch up. meet new people, order food and drinks, and choose a comfy spot to settle.  Then we dive into an hour of independent reading where we can all immerse ourselves in our books without worry or interruptions.  We finish the night off with 30 minutes to share, discuss, unwind, or simply keep reading.  Everything is completely optional (except for the 1 hour of silence).  so feel free to come and go as you please and share as little or as much as you want.  We may have been founded by a couple of introverted readers, but we welcome extroverts just as warmly (just ignore the terror in our eyes).

Drinks are available for purchase.  Just bring your book!
