Vol.34 No. 44
"If you dig deep enough, through all the mud of politics and polarization, eventually you hit something hard and true: a foundation of values and aspirations that bind us together as Americans. That’s something to build on. If we can break out of our toxic 'us versus them' dichotomies, if we can shrink our notion of 'the other' and expand the 'we' in 'we the people,' perhaps we can discover that we have more in common than we think.”
Early Voting in the November 7, 2023 Constitutional Amendments Election began on October 23rd and will continue through November 3rd. Don’t forget to vote, and it is always good to vote early.Due to poor election turn-out for this type of election, early remote voting is not available. (Come on, South County -- let's prove them wrong and TURN OUT TO VOTE ON ELECTION DAY!)
Election day is November 7. Precincts 5, 6, and 7 will vote at the J.W. “Red” Pattillo Community Center in Study Butte. Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
In addition to the amendments, Precinct 7's ballot will include voting on Proposition A, confirming the creation of Lajitas Utility District No. 1. Details of the amendments are available in English at https://www.sos.texas.gov/elections/forms/2023-explanatory-statements-14-final.pdf
and in Spanish at https://www.sos.texas.gov/elections/forms/2023-explanatory-statements-14-sp-final.pdf

SOUTH COUNTY LIBRARY PROJECT
The Big Bend Citizens Alliance would like to thank Jeff Leach for his donation of 2.7 acres adjoining our Canyon View Community Park (the ballfields next to Terlingua school). This donation is hugely important for securing road frontage for the park, which we envision as the future home of a public library complex to serve our community! We'd also like to thank an Anonymous Donor, Greg Henington, the Big Bend Chamber of Commerce, and the Terlingua Preservation Society for their generous donations to the Library Project. On behalf of the Alliance and all of our volunteers, thank you for your contribution to the South County Library Project. Our organization relies on the help and participation of many people, and we are so grateful to be able to count on your support!
The Planning Committee for the SCLP is continuing to meet and plan for future library services in South County. A meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at the Canyon View Community Park (ballfield), located on Roadrunner Circle just before the Terlingua school. Anyone who is interested is welcome to attend and we look forward to getting more volunteers involved as our project expands. For more information, visit https://bigbendcitizensalliance.org/

WELCOME to our Two Chili Cookoffs:
The Wick Fowler & Frank Tolbert - Tolbert Terlingua Chili Group Information OTICCC Chili Cook-Off is about to kick-off!
November 1st-4th in #terlinguatx.
Often referred to as the Tolbert Cookoff, or Behind the Store --This is THE "Grand Daddy" of all chili cook-offs!
The first cook-off was held in 1967, it was created by Frank Tolbert and friends.
It was a contest between New Yorker, H. Allen Smith, and Texas legend #WickFowler (@wickfowlerschili) to settle a dispute over who knew more about chili - Texans or New Yorkers. The contest ended in a draw, but the rest is history for the chili cook-off continues today.
*Cook-Off benefits ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) and local charities!
