SOUTH COUNTY
LIBRARY PROJECT – thanks to all of the 300+ people who participated in our
survey to find out what our community would like to see in our new
library.
For
those who do not know, the Big Bend Library at the Terlingua School provided
public library services to our community since 2003. However, there were two major factors in TCSD
not being able to continue those services: Covid restrictions and legislative mandated
safety rules for schools after Santa Fe and Uvalde. When Superintendent Reagan Reed realized the
school wouldn't be able to fulfill the county contract for public library services,
he approached Big Bend Citizens Alliance to see if we could find a way to keep
that money down south and keep public library services happening in some way. So we've partnered to work towards a solution,
which will eventually be a new public library managed by a new non-profit.
A brick
and mortar library building off campus is being planned to serve the whole
community, and will be able to continue receiving the annual county funding
into the future. For now BBCA is
facilitating the effort, getting community input and developing a plan, while
we figure out how best to achieve the goal.
So,
back to that survey . . . those who participated were entered into a raffle for
prices from some of our local sponsors.
AND THE WINNERS ARE
. . . (drum roll, please)

LaKIVA ‑‑ We’re back!
Thank you to everyone who has come in to the bar for our first few nights. It’s been amazing seeing all the reactions from long time family to people who are seeing La Kiva for the first time. Our next phase is opening the restaurant. We hope this happens in the next few days. We will have a limited menu at first which will expand over the next few weeks.
We will quickly transition into our normal routine. We are so excited to bring back some La Kiva traditions like the decades long Wednesday Open Mic Night. Karaoke will return.
We will have weekly rotational food nights to compliment our core menu. Yes, I’m talking Fish Fry Fridays!! But, also Thursday Steak Night. Seafood Saturdays. Who wants Pasta Night? Cajun Night? We are really excited about Sunday Summer Movie Nights on the huge projector screen outside. Our brothers and sisters in the Service Industry- we’ve got every day drink specials coming especially for you. I mean- where else would you want to be when you aren’t at work?!? #minderasers
Our transition is a calculated process. As always, our focus is the experience for all our guests. Throwing everything on the table at once wouldn’t be smart of us, so we’re phasing things in. I promise it’ll be worth it.
Thank you all again. We are thrilled to be back.
Viva La Kiva!
