Terlingua Moon for June 7, 2022

March Against Gun Violence

Saturday, June 11.     11 am - 2 pm

Gazebo - Front Lawn of Brewster County Courthouse - 201 W Ave E., Alpine, TX

We are all Columbine, Parkland, Sandy Hook, Alpine, Uvalde (school), Las Vegas (outdoor concert), El Paso (Walmart) and Buffalo (supermarket). Since the Uvalde school shooting on May 24, Tulsa (hospital), Ames Iowa (church), and Racine, Wisconsin (cemetery) were among those hometowns seeing mass gun violence. Ours is a community of schoolhouses and public venues no different but in population than those already hurting. Enough is enough!

David Hogg, a survivor of a school shooting, formed an organization, March For Our Lives, which is coordinating nation-wide rallies on June 11 to address this important issue. A lawful, civic rally joining our voices in seeking an end to the carnage will be heard, too.

An Alpine-Big Bend area rally commemorating the victims, traumatized families and communities will acknowledge their suffering. Welcomed to join are those of an open, compassionate heart from Alpine's small neighboring communities of friends and visitors here wishing to be present.

Our intention is to: 1) Honor the deceased of Uvalde; 2) Draw attention to the on-going bloodletting of the innocents; 2) End the confusion about the history and law of the 2nd Amendment; 4) Discuss reasonable options to end the unbearable carnage.

Expect the weather to be West Texas mid-June hot. While the venue is shaded, please be comfortable bringing chairs as needed, water and snacks. Flowers or small objects for a suitable memorial are welcome. Of course, bring signs expressing your feelings about gun-related violence.

Following the formal presentation at the Gazebo, some may wish to continue displaying signs on the main street by the Courthouse and/or going 3 blocks to Railroad Park (at US 67/90 and TX 118) and its opposite corner a block north.

Thank you for your participation, sharing this June 11th Alpine-Big Bend Texas March For Our Lives Against Violence Rally with others by publicizing it and working earnestly to reduce the problems associated with gun violence plaguing the nation far too long. information, details and any changes may be updated as the planning continues.
