Terlingua MOON

March 26, 2019
Vol.  30   No. 13
by Million sMiles

One final paragraph of advice: do not burn yourselves out. Be as I am - a reluctant enthusiast....a part-time crusader, a half-hearted fanatic. Save the other half of yourselves and your lives for pleasure and adventure. It is not enough to fight for the land; it is even more important to enjoy it. While you can. While it’s still here. So get out there and hunt and fish and mess around with your friends, ramble out yonder and explore the forests, climb the mountains, bag the peaks, run the rivers, breathe deep of that yet sweet and lucid air, sit quietly for a while and contemplate the precious stillness, the lovely, mysterious, and awesome space. Enjoy yourselves, keep your brain in your head and your head firmly attached to the body, the body active and alive, and I promise you this much; I promise you this one sweet victory over our enemies, over those desk-bound men and women with their hearts in a safe deposit box, and their eyes hypnotized by desk calculators. I promise you this; You will outlive the bast*rds.
― Edward Abbey

SOTOL FESTIVAL 2019
Announcing Sotol Festival 2019! Join us as we celebrate the indigenous distilled spirit of the Chihuahuan Desert at La Kiva Restaurant and Bar in Terlingua, Texas and Boquillas, Coahuila, MX on April 12-13.
At this one-of-a-kind, binational festival you will have the opportunity to try many brands of sotol and meet the sotoleros who produce it, along with on-site camping, live music, local vendors and more. If you are asking yourself “What is sotol?” or if you have known about this earthy elixir for years, this festival is for you.
On Friday, April 12, the festivities begin at La Kiva Restaurant and Bar, with live music from some of the best Terlingua local musicians. Saturday morning we're taking the party across the Río Grande from Big Bend National Park to our favorite town in México, Boquillas, for an authentic experience and to celebrate the unity, peace, dignity, and respect that we enjoy daily here in our piece of the borderland.  On Saturday night, the party reconvenes at La Kiva for more live music from the Pinche Gringos, The Doodlin' Hogwallops, and headliners, Mike & The Moonpies – and, of course, more sotol tasting!
Admission to Sotol Festival 2019 is free, and campsites are available to reserve now at www.sotolfestival.com. Official festival t-shirts and merch are also available for pre-order and are expected to sell out, so don’t wait. Pack your bags, don’t forget your passport, and get ready to SOTOL FEST!  Contact info:  512-417-6115
