Updated every Tuesday. Or Monday

We are what you share.

When the Crisis Center of the Big Bend pays for food to be distributed in South Brewster County it costs about one per cent of the retail cost for the food.  Thus a $25 donation to the Crisis Center will pay for $2,500 worth of food to feed our neighbors.  ~ Paul Glaves

Last Saturday, Team 11720 – the Purobots competed in El Paso at the UTEP Memorial Gym and finished the regular season in 1st place with an impressive 17–3 record. After alliance selections, the Purobots advanced to the championship round and  along with their alliance partners, EL Dorado HS Aztechs, went undefeated to win the El Paso League Championship for the second year in a row. This is a major accomplishment for Team 11720, and the team is now gearing up for Regionals in Lubbock, TX at the end of the month.  I would like to thank our school, sponsors, parents and community members for their continued support. Your encouragement, time, and resources make opportunities like this possible, and we are grateful for the commitment shown to our students and team.                  - Coach B.T. Anthenat

I was recently in Terlingua for Dia de Los Muertos and lingered by the resting place of Pablo Menudo for a while, and his friends were playing some of his music and poems on a speaker.  One of the poems was about 25 minutes long and seemed to be about almost everything under the sun, and I've been having trouble tracking it down. Would you happen to know anything about that, or would you be able to put me in touch with someone down there who'd be able to help me find it?   I really liked your town and the people in it, hope to get back down there soon!  Thanks very much,  Jonathan Flowers

Big Bend National Park to Host Ribbon-Cutting for Historic Service Station Renovation

BIG BEND NATIONAL PARK, Texas –   Big Bend National Park and Casa Grande Hospitality, a subsidiary of Aramark Destinations, invite the public to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly renovated Panther Junction Service Station on Feb. 12 at 10 a.m.  The Panther Junction Service Station, built in 1958, is part of the Panther Junction Mission 66 historic district and listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Along with the nearby Panther Junction Visitor Center, the service station was intended to serve as a “welcome mat for park visitors” and designed to both be seen by the public and blend in with the surrounding landscape. The angle of the roof mirrors that of nearby Lone Mountain.  The 864-square-foot interior was renovated in summer 2025 to update the facility with modern amenities while preserving the historic structure and exterior appearance. The interior remodel features an open floor plan with more natural lighting, a self-checkout kiosk, all new cabinetry, shelving, wall fixtures, and coolers, updated restrooms, and more. Products available include snacks, beverages, souvenirs, and sundries.  Exterior updates include a covered pavilion with solar panels constructed to house a food trailer, which will begin serving food options in spring 2026. Other updates include picnic tables, bike rack, generator, an EV charging station and new asphalt.

Big Bend National Park to Begin Invasive Tree Removal Along the Rio Grande  Big Bend National Park will cut down and apply herbicide to invasive tamarisk along the Rio Grande, including the Hot Springs area, February 12-28.
