STUDY BUTTE WATER

SBWSC: There is a leak on Fulcher Road; we are working on it. Some people will be without water while we fix it. Many had low pressure, but that should be resolving itself now that the leak has been isolated. There will be a boil notice issued for the east side (from TXDOT over). Formal boil notice to follow. The monthly board meeting is this morning (11/17) at 10am (at the EMS station); as the guys are all fixing the leak, the office/plant will be closed during the meeting. Once the meeting is over I will start returning phone calls and contact all the businesses affected by the boil notice. We are also having issue with the phones, so please be patient with me; I'm doing my best to get the information.

KEN & JOEE BARNES 30th ANNUAL MEMORIAL FUNDRAISER - We lost Joee May Barnes at the age of 16 after a tragic accident. The community opened their hearts and rallied to raise funds for our family, but it wasn’t needed for its intended purpose. Joee attended Terlingua High School, so we decided to return the money by creating a scholarship in her name. My father, Ken Barnes, kept the scholarship fund going by honoring Joee’s memory with a Memorial Fundraiser every year. My husband and I have kept the tradition going after Dad’s passing and the fundraiser now honors both their memories.

Join us November 8th for our annual Cribbage & Horseshoe tournaments (sign up at 9), BBQ Plates (noonish) and silent auction at the Terlingua Ghostown Horseshoe Pits. All proceeds go to TCSD High School Graduate Scholarships. I still need auction items. If you have something, please let me know - love2canoe@yahoo.com.

The 2025 Terlingua Music Bash is a wrap!!!

We are so grateful to all the musicians, Silent Auction donors (and participants), volunteers, visitors from near and far and the venues . . . The Boathouse, The Starlight, The Temple of the Bird and DB’s Rustic BBQ . . .  for everything. There’s no way to articulate just what all that involved.

MARK (“EYEBALL”) KNEESKERN MEMORIAL ART SCHOLARSHIP

As much fun as everyone had around the music, one of the key functions of the Bash is the Silent Auction which supports the Mark (“eYeBall”) Kneeskern Memorial Art Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior of the Terlingua High School who will be pursuing a degree in fine arts. This year’s auction raised over $4,000 and will help ensure the scholarship is funded for years to come.

While it would be impossible to thank all those who contributed to its success, we’d especially like to recognize Crystal Allbright (who helped to ensure Mark’s “mark” remained bright with the children at the Terlingua schools, and in our community, after his death); to Cindy Burns, Sandi Turvan, Jen and Romaldo Peña, Amanda & Crow Johnson, and Mellie Baggett who volunteered their time and talents to staffing the auction (and missing the music!). As our Terlingua community does so often to support one another, gratitude to locals Gary Kneeskern; Ceil Drucker and Bob Sutherland (Desert Lotus Healing Arts); Crystal Allbright; Cynta de Narvaez; Naomi Galindo and Posada Milagro y Poco Mas as well as Taqueria el Milagro; The Whitmore’s; Kathleen Tolbert & Paul Ryan; the Far Flung Outdoor Center; Val Stanley (Milky Way Treats); Lupe Baeza (The Chili Pepper); Chase Peeler; Mary Diesel; Molly Dumas; Steve Nathanson; Wright Hardware; Jana Laven; Becky Kay; Richard Curtin; and Tony Drewery for their generous donations. Evidence of the magic the Music Bash brings to Terlingua is the fact that so many of those who attend the Bash from San Antonio, Austin, San Marcos, New Braunfels and other points north, south, east and west have also become key contributors to the Auction – Christi Barlow; Dallas Burrow; Darla Wright; Geronimo Trevino, Gloria Abdel Jalic; Glow Dale; Jim Beale & Kelli King; Lynn Langham; Ollie Morris; Tim Hussin and too many others to name - which helped the auction to be so incredibly successful.

We’d like to share our deepest love and appreciation to Shannon Carter for sharing her love of Mark and his memory with us all. And to Al Barlow and Gareth Angleton for starting the Terlingua Music Bash all those 30-some-odd years ago. Thank you and watch this space (and/ orhttps://cabin10.org/scholarships) come Spring 2026 as the recipient of the next Scholarship is announced.

COMMUNITY MARKET

Come see us at the Saturday Community Market, open from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Located at the Community Garden in the Ghost Town, we're here every Saturday with happy vendors offering an array of locally produced goods and other items. You'll also be able to enjoy our fabulous local mobile library and portable free ‘porch’, even consult with Dr. Gigabyte if you have a computer problem.

Local art, handcrafted textile goods, all natural lip balms and skin care products, all natural essential oil fragrances, beard oil and massage oils, handcrafted, creative jewelry, resin creations, block printed textiles and vintage goods, both curated and upcycled, practical and artistic items made of reclaimed steel and more -- you never know just what or who you'll find here.

Flea market items are also welcome. After all, reusing and up-cycling already existing items is smart and green. We ask a $10 donation to the Community Garden to set up, helping us to continue to improve this space and experience for all of us.

We welcome new vendors. To make it easy for new vendors to try our market and to show our appreciation to our regular vendors, we waive set-up fees on the first Saturday of the month, offering free set-up on that day. For more information, text or call 432.213.1863 or pop in at the market for a chat. Prepared food vendors must display current food handling license. (A quick, easy and affordable online course can provide that).

Please help keep our market space safe and comfortable for all, two-legged and four, by keeping all dogs leashed and under control. We look forward to seeing you there.
