TERLINGUA MOON
Vol 27.  No. 16
April 19, 2016

A few minutes ago every tree was excited, bowing to the roaring storm, waving, swirling, tossing their branches in glorious enthusiasm like worship. But though to the outer ear these trees are now silent, their songs never cease.  ~John Muir

As many of you have heard, The Boathouse is closing April 30.  Mark your calendars now: the next two Open Mics (Wednesdays) at 7 p.m. will be sensational.  Some amazing folks are coming to town . . . some amazing folks live here. Musicians' tips will be going to the Terlingua Community Garden in honor of Earth Day and the good people who show us how our gardens can grow.
EVERY night there's fabulous food (5 - 9:30) but better get your fill while you still can. Next Friday (22nd) will be our last night to cook but we'll be phasing things off the menu this week as we deplete fresh ingredients. Burgers, at a minimum, will be available through next Friday night. Same goes for our signature Habanero Margaritas and Habanero-infused Sotol.
The rest of the music for the month looks like this:
Friday, April 22: Laird Considine and Friends from 7-10
Saturday, April 23: Paul Sprawl from 8-11
Friday, April 29th: Trevor Reichman from 7-10
and,
Saturday, April 30, there's going to be a BLOW OUT BASH to beat all BLOW OUT BASHES. Some of the best musicians on the planet from right here in Terlingua and a few of the best who love Terlingua and call it their second home - like Jacob Jaeger and James Gwyn for starters.

News from our Precinct 2 Commissioner, Hugh Garrett:
If you were unable to attend the Commissioners Court Meeting in Study Butte on March 29th, I hope you have had an opportunity to talk with your neighbors about some of the items addressed. We learned  the Rio Grande Electric Co-op is committed to building a substation in Study Butte and has already contracted with LCRA to plan and construct a new transmission line that will effectively provide reliable electricity for South County. Unfortunately, we also learned that the timeline is five years for approval and construction of the project. The BBCA approached the County regarding taking over the Canyon View Ballparks as a county park and this is under review. And we talked about future clean-up and electronics recycling days and I will keep you updated on these opportunities.
One item not on the agenda that has been brought to my attention by several constituents concerns the sale of property in South County. Any sale of property in Brewster County must be in compliance with the Subdivision Regulations of Brewster County, Texas and the EDAP Model Subdivision Rules. The bottom line is that if you’re dividing your property into two or more tracts less than 10 acres, you must comply with the Regulations and get a plat approved by Commissions Court. If the property is for residential purposes, then the EDAP Rules must be followed. Any tract less than 5 acres is assumed to be for residential purposes. Your surveyor is aware of the requirements. Additionally, former Brewster County Judge Val Beard developed a response to FAQ regarding subdivisions that you can finds on the Brewster County website at www.brewstercountytx.com. Click on “Permits, Procedures, Policies” at the top of the page, then go to “Subdivision Regulations” and click on the link for FAQ.
Congratulations to TFEMS for another successful Firemen’s Ball and finishing the night with Radio La Chusma at the Starlight was way cool. My contact information is on the Brewster County website. Thanks for allowing me the opportunity to serve.

What a gorgeous looking German Shepherd mix Lobo is!  Still only a year old, Lobo is nearly full-grown but will probably get a little heavier than his current 80-ish pounds. He is still a puppy- albeit a giant puppy.  He seems really excited about playing with toys but behaves like he doesn't have much experience with them. He walks pretty well on a leash and shows readiness to learn 'sit' and 'come here.'  He's a curious guy, but Lobo hasn’t yet had much human guidance. He needs his keeper to set and enforce the rules, and to teach him how great it feels to be told that he's a “good dog.” With a savvy owner, Lobo will keep turning heads! Lobo is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on all shots. The Alpine Animal Shelter is open M-F from 10am to 6pm (closed 1-2pm) and by appointment on the weekends, located on the east side of Alpine on Old Marathon Road. AAS animals are online at https://www.petfinder.com/pet-search?shelter_id=TX1202 For more info email heatherthemule@gmail.com

Otra Vez
We're open Wednesday and Saturday from 9 - 12 and welcome gently used clothes and house hold supplies.  This week: half-price sale on kitchen utensils.

The Texas Bighorn Society gave a $10,000 donation with private funds to Big Bend Ranch State Park to locate a viewing area for the Ranch's bighorns on State Highway FM 170 west of The Big Hill, about 1/2 way on the west side downgrade. A free high power telescope is mounted under the shelter for close-up viewing.More at  http://www.austin360.com/news/lifestyles/recreation/experts-work-to-re-establish-bighorn-sheep-populat/nqq8L/

Winter Texans went home and Many Stones has lots of eggs! New shipment of minerals and a few new plants.

A huge thank you to The Boathouse and Terlingua Rentals for the tremendous $800 donation to Big Bend Library through the Open Mic Musicians.  We'll be purchasing new young adult and adult fiction for the library. We are blessed beyond measure to have such a talented and caring group of musicians to donate their time and music and a very generous community to support those efforts.

La Fenice, acclaimed Commedia dell' Arte troupe from Austin, will be returning to Terlingua for two performances only! Come "down south" to the Cinnabar Theatre in Study Butte (on Hwy 118, just north of the post office) at 8PM on Friday and/or Saturday nights  to see Fenice's new show, Siege of the Dark Nebula. $10.00 requested donation at the door.

The Terlingua Moon is published every Tuesday.
