The Terlingua Moon - 25 November 2024 -- Vol. 35, #48

TERLINGUA MOON
November 25, 2024
by Terlingua Thinking Team

"I genuinely hope that… anti-trans folks someday experience the joy and liberation of being comfortable in your own skin enough to know that the liberation of others is no threat to you. Equality is not a pie; there is more than enough for everyone." – Charlotte Clymer, writer, military veteran, transgender activist.

"Practice corporeal politics. Power wants your body softening in your chair and your emotions dissipating on the screen. Get outside. Put your body in unfamiliar places with unfamiliar people. Make new friends and march with them." - Timothy Snyder, On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century

Happy Veterans Day from Big Bend National Park! Today, we remember and honor all veterans who have given so much to our country. Veterans have been integral to Big Bend since its beginning—working on trails, preserving our wilderness, and guiding our park’s mission of conservation and discovery. Their contributions, both seen and unseen, have left a lasting impact on the park and our shared heritage.

To every veteran and their families, thank you for your sacrifice, service, and dedication. Your legacy lives on in Big Bend’s trails, vistas, and quiet places. We’re grateful for all you have done and continue to do.

EXCITING NEWS! DarkSky International has released free templates to help local and regional governments adopt responsible outdoor lighting policies.

These new resources, grounded in the Five Principles of Responsible Outdoor Lighting, provide practical guidance to reduce light pollution–protecting wildlife, lowering energy costs, and enhancing community safety and well-being.

Developed with input from experts in lighting, ecology, and urban planning, these templates make it easier than ever to implement effective, sustainable lighting solutions with today's technology.

Cities, states, territories, and regions that adopt and implement these codes will also be able to apply for official recognition through our new DarkSky Recognized Codes and Statutes program.

These templates will officially launch this weekend at Under One Sky, DarkSky’s global conference! Join us on November 9 at 11:45 AM MST (6:45 PM UTC) to hear from our programs team on how to implement these tools and make a difference in your community.

Visit the link below to learn more about the templates and how to become DarkSky Recognized!

Much of Terlingua is barren, dry, eroded, and shadeless due to fairly recent deforestation and over-grazing, but it's contemporary natural state is forested savannah.  There are specific techniques that easily restore native trees, grasses, shrubs, perennials, forbs, and ground covers - without irrigation, fertilizer, or soil amendments!

Eco-Logic can help you do this for your property without needing to buy plants, irrigate, or amend soil.  Having gained 20 years professional landscape architecture and permaculture design experience as well as holding a graduate degree in landscape architecture and a permaculture design certification, Eco-Logic offers a free written permaculture strategy or special on-site consultations to help local landowners restore their property to its best ecological health possible.

DESERT PERMACULTURE ‑‑ Much of Terlingua Ranch is barren, dry, eroded, and shadeless due to fairly recent deforestation and over-grazing, but its contemporary natural state is forested savannah.
