Notice has been given for a special election for voting to adopt or reject the proposed Constitutional Amendments as submitted by the 87th Legislature, Regular Session, of the State of Texas.  

Eight propositions will be included on the ballot. To view these propositions, visit https://www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/voter/2021novballotlang.shtml.

Precincts 5, 6 & 7 will vote at the J.W. “Red” Pattillo Community Center in Study Butte on election day. 


Early voting for all precincts will ONLY be available in Alpine at the Judge Val Beard Office Complex.


If you are eligible and want to vote by mail, you MUST contact Lora Nussbaum, Elections Administrator, Brewster County at 432-837-6230 to request an application to vote by mail. Lora must have the completed application in her office no later than the close of business on Friday, October 22. Vote-by-mail applications are only valid for one year, so if you haven’t applied during 2021, you must apply now.  With the anticipated delays in the US postal service starting October 1, TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE!

Members of the public are also encouraged to participate in public comment by calling telephone number 432-538-2028. This temporary suspension will leave important Open Meetings Act (Section 551.043, Texas Government Code) protections in place:

Earth and Fire Gallery

Hello, fellow artist and craftspeople! Earth and Fire Gallery will be hosting “Second Saturday Art Mart” every month.  This event will be a place for local artists and craftspeople to set up their art for sale or show. It will located in the front of the Earth and Fire Gallery from 9 am till 2 pm  each second Saturday of the month, so this is the weekend coming up. Artists must bring their own displays, tables, chairs and ways of making change. All work must be locally handmade items. We are looking to create a venue filled with art, inspiration, fun, and camaraderie here in the Terlingua area. No food vendors. From Ms. Reed: In conjunction with the Amazon Future Engineers Program, 9th and 11th graders participated in a Virtual Chat with 4 recipients of the Amazon Future Engineers Scholarship/Internship. The 4 student in the panel are currently attending Princeton, Stanford, Boston University, and Howard University. Amazon annually gives 100 scholarships to students majoring in STEM fields with $10,000 each year over 4 years and a paid Amazon internship after their freshmen year in college.

Terlingua Bottoms Group

The Terlingua Bottoms Group of AA meets every Thursday at 7:30 at the Big Bend Church in Study Butte. We wear masks during the meeting, and observe distancing.  The meetings are open to anyone who has or thinks they may have a drinking problem.
