Henington Retires
On Wednesday evening, Sheriff Dodson, along with family, friends, and first responders, celebrated the retirement of Terlingua Fire and EMS Chief Greg Henington. Chief Henington served the South Brewster County area for 25 years. Chief Henington’s dedication to service, expertise, and experience will be missed. We wish him luck in this next chapter.

Third Annual Terlingua Burlesque Show
The time is nigh for the 3rd annual Terlingua Burlesque Show at the LMLB/Cinnabar theatre this Friday and Saturday (Dec 13/14) at 7:30pm! Hey folks ~ come see us! Feeling fancy? We dare you to dress up! Prizes for skirt night winners both nights. We are also having another Mystery Box raffle both nights with plenty of awesome goodies inside. We will be selling hats, koozies, and stickers as well ☺️ Bring cash for beer/wine. Donations always appreciated! Adults Only, 18 and over! This year we are donating part of our proceeds back to the Cinnabar theatre itself! Seating is limited so get there early. Not into getting there early? Try playing the reserved seat raffle: $10 for the chance to win two reserved seats for one night. Find Alex Bowling, Sierra Lowe, Jenny Schooler, or Brian Devonshire for tickets. There will be a skirt night competition both nights with prizes for the winner!

Turn in time 2 PM sharp, cook on site or off, Wednesday, January 1, 2020. Live music featuring Just Us Girls and Friends starting at 3 PM. At 2:30 PM donation of five dollars or more gets you a bowl, spoon and cornbread for a taste of good luck peas! Happy new year! Proceeds will benefit continuing education scholarships for Terlingua seniors.

Mobile Veterans Center
Veterans in Jeff Davis, Presidio and Brewster County are invited aboard the mobile veterans center December 11 and 12 to receive counseling, file claims and learn more about veterans assistance benefits that are free, confidential and available to veterans, active duty service members, reserve, guard and their families. The mobile service center arrives in Alpine on Wednesday, December 11 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the parking lot on Avenue E between 7th and 8th Street, and the center will be stationed outside Marfa’s USO Building on Thursday, December 12 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., before rolling on to Fort Davis’s Chamber of Commerce that afternoon from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

For Those Interested in the Welding Classes
Hello everyone, Nehemiah’s Outcry is hoping things are going well for everyone. We have been involved in work and welding classes on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota and the Dine (Navajo) Reservation in the Gallup, New Mexico area. We have had some huge improvements in the tools and equipment acquired because of some very gracious and wonderful people sympathetic to our objectives. We will be starting welding classes again at Big Bend Church, on Monday January 6 & 7, times for both days will be at 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. If you have any questions, feel free to call Ray Bullock’s cell at 432-837-3737. Email is noutcry@yahoo.com. It would be advisable to use this contact info and not the church office. They wouldn’t mind hearing from you but they will have to forward you to us anyway.

The Terlingua Bottoms Group
The Terlingua Bottoms Group of AA meets every Thursday at 7:30 at the Big Bend Church in Study Butte.  The meetings are open to anyone who has or thinks they may have a drinking problem.

Hours for Terlingua Recycles  
Not just open Saturday, 9-12, also Wednesday, 4:30-600. Located behind the ball fields (look for the sign to turn before the fields)  Currently we can ONLY ACCEPT:
           -aluminum cans
            -CLEAN tin cans
            -CLEAN #1 and #2 plastic
           -CLEAN cardboard.

Terlingua Crisis Center Raffle Tickets Available
Still time to get those raffle tickets at the counter of the Crisis Center! Help support the Center-- not just for USDA food distribution, but free counseling and helping anyone who is dealing with domestic violence. They are there when there is a need. Prizes are on display in the back room, drawing will be December 18th.  One ticket for $3, 2 for $5, Ten dollars will get you five tickets, and twenty bucks will get  you fifteen tickets to put into an envelope for your desired prize.

December Services at Santa Inez-Ghostown Church
Thursday-12th: Join us in celebrating The Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Procession will start at 4:30pm from the Community Garden parking area continuing to the church. Canon Lee Curtis from El Paso (Si Habla Espanol) and Father Mike Wallens will lead the short bilingual service around 5pm. The popularity of this feast has grown particularly in the southwestern United States, particularly among Americans of Mexican descent. Dancers, drummer, banners, and parades are all a part of the feast day. Many Episcopal Churches, especially those with Latino parishioners, celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.  
Sunday 15th and 22nd: Evening Prayer 5pm-5:30pm
Sunday 25th: Christmas Day Service at 11am with Father Mike Wallens 
Sunday 29th: No Service

Brewster County Courthouse Holiday Closures
The county courthouse and offices will be closed for the Christmas holiday December 24, 25 and 26, 2019, and the New Year holiday December 31 and January 1.

Taqueria El Milagro

Celebration of life for D. Wayne Powell, Commander, at American Legion 653, Terlingua, Saturday 14 December 2-4pm. Wayne’s family ask you to join them to share his stories and celebrate his life. All welcome.

Terlingua Farmers’ Market
Stop by the Farmers’ Market for food, fun, and beautiful handmade gifts!  Every Saturday from 10AM - 1PM at the Terlingua Community Garden in the Ghost Town. A great place to buy and sell fresh eggs, unique art & handicrafts, and delicious baked goods. Shop LOCAL this holiday season! Vendor fee is just $5 for anyone interested in selling. Grand Opening For New Exhibits in Castolon
On Saturday, December 14th, at 3:00 PM, Big Bend National Park will host a Grand Opening Event for new exhibits and the reopening of the Castolon Historic Area.

Which came first:  The Ghostown or the Storyteller?  Y’ALL tell US at the next WORD-OFF, coming soon to Big Bend’s own Cinnabar Theatre!  May we suggest a loose theme to play with?  “A Big Bend Love Affair.”  Have at it!  Sharpen your best tale and get ready for the stage!  WORD-OFF 2020 takes place Thursday the 13th of February in the 20th year of this Century.  Come one, come all!
*WORD-OFF is a uniquely Terlingua event and 2020 marks its 20ish year in existence!*

Meet Canelo!
Canelo has left the shelter and is shining in his foster home! No need to take a chance on this buddy, we already know he is housetrained, happy in a crate, easy on a leash, friendly with all people, ready to play with dog friends, comfortable in the car, respectful around kids, great in the house and just about the snuggliest, sweetest couch potato ever.
