RCHD is now a designated COVID-19 “Vaccination Hub” and is inoculating individuals who qualify under the state’s Phase 1A or 1B criteria. The goal of Vaccine Hubs is to provide more people in rural areas the vaccine and a simpler way to sign up for an appointment.

Phase 1A: Includes front-line healthcare workers, staff and residents of longterm care facilities. Phase 1B: Includes individuals 65 years of age and older, and people 16 years of age and older with at least one chronic medical condition that puts them at increased risk for severe illness from the virus that causes COVID-19.

January is already on its way out, 2021 is well underway, and we've got our first full moon of the year on the horizon. The full moon this month is referred to as the "Wolf Moon," and it's a powerful time for both releasing what no longer serves you, and harnessing that good lunar energy.

 

The Big Bend Citizens Alliance will hold a regular meeting on Thursday, January 28th at 6PM via ZOOM. We're a public charity supporting the Terlingua Community Garden, Canyon View Community Park, Terlingua Recycles, Voices from Both Sides, Terlingua Visual Arts, Terlingua Dark Sky Alliance, Terlingua Cares, and the Big Bend Covid-19 Pandemic Relief Fund. From Ms. Willmon: Big Bend High School honored the TCSD School Board on January 20.The theme was  'Donut forget you make the "Hole" school DOZENS of times better than the rest". Kinder-12th Grade created paper donuts to say thank you. BBHS Student Council purchased donuts for everyone. They also provided refreshments and gift bags to the School Board. StuCo would like to thank Emma Rodriguez for bringing the donuts from Alpine. Thank you for your time and service: President Travis Jenks, Vice President Scott Watkins, and Secretary Margarita Garcia.

COMING SOON:  A NEW BIG BEND HIKING TRAIL

The Brewster County Tourism Council and Visit Big Bend has been informed by Big Bend National Park that the development of a new hiking trail located at Panther Junction has begun.  


The Lone Mountain Trail will be accessible just north of park headquarters at Panther Junction. The trail will circle the base of Lone Mountain and grace visitors with views of the Chisos, Dead Horse, and Rosillos Mountains. The new trail will be categorized as a moderately challenging hike with a length of 3 miles, which will begin and end in Panther Junction. The construction of The Lone Mountain Trail will occur in 2022 by the Big Bend National Park trail crew and volunteers.  


Brewster County is still under a mask mandate with all businesses requiring a face covering to enter or to be served. When visiting businesses in the Big Bend, please follow all CDC guidelines and all governor mandates created to stop the spread of COVID-19.

Next Round of LISC Rural Relief Small Business Grants Open from January 26 through February 2

The Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) is offering Rural Relief Small Business Grants for up to $20,000. Grants support small businesses and enterprises affected by COVID-19 across the country, especially those in underserved communities, including entrepreneurs of color, women- and veteran-owned businesses that often lack access to flexible, affordable capital. Applications are being accepted in “rounds” and you must submit a new application for each round in order to be considered for funding in that round. THE TERLINGUA BOTTOMS GROUP of AA will meet this  Thursday at 7:30 at the Big Bend Church in Study Butte. The meetings are open to anyone who has or thinks they may have a drinking problem. We meet in a group of less than five, wear masks, and practice Social Distancing.
