LMLB Cinnabar Theater, Admission: FREE
In 1997, U.S. Marines patrolling the Texas-Mexico border as part of the War on Drugs shot and killed Esequiel Hernández Jr. Mistaken for a drug runner, the 18-year-old was, in fact, a U.S. citizen tending his family's goats with a .22 rifle. He became the first American killed by U.S. military forces on native soil since the 1970 Kent State shootings. The Ballad of Esequiel Hernández, narrated by Tommy Lee Jones, explores Hernandez's tragic death and its torturous aftermath. His parents and friends, the Marines on patrol, and investigators discuss the dangers of militarizing the border and the death of one young man. A co-presentation of Latino Public Broadcasting. An official selection of the 2007 Tribeca Film Festival.
Film Length: 90 min. Filmmaker: Kieran FitzgeraldThis event is a collaboration with POV, the award-winning independent non-fiction film series on PBS www.pbs.org/pov

All Energies Tip of the Week: Circuit protection is often overlooked in off grid solar installations, because it's pricey compared to traditional off the shelf breaker boxes. Proper DC (direct current) breakers will protect your home, your equipment and make equipment service safer. These boxes are oftine refered to as switchgear by people in the industry. Many inverter manufacturers sell model specific DC/AC breaker boxes. Their boxes minimize connections and protect your investment. Some manufacturers provide a longer warranty when you buy their switchgear. Companies such as Midnite Solar make universal boxes for all types of solar equipment.  If you need help making your solar system work better, email casey@allenergies.net or call/text 432-242-1874

DEZ is just over 2 years old and has spent more than 200 days in the Alpine Animal Shelter waiting to e adopted! He is pretty reserved at first, and can be leery of strangers but once you’re a familiar face, he has a great smile and loves ear scratches. Dez is great at fetch and good with other independent-minded dogs. He has medium energy,  appears house trained and walks nicely on a leash. Like many of us ‘round these parts, he likes his space and his quiet routines. Here’s hoping a like-minded Terlinguan can give him a great home to be his best self! Dez is neutered, microchipped and up to date on all shots. Contact admin@alpinehumanesociety.org for more info about him or any other homeless pet in the Alpine Shelter. The Alpine Humane Society supports pets and their keepers throughout all of Brewster County.

FUNNY INTERVIEW WITH BUTCH
CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Plains Dealer:  A conversation with Butch Hancock of the Flatlanders, the band that essentially created the Americana genre in 1972, is like talking to a master of West Texas Zen. To understand what that means, it helps to know that in a previous interview, Hancock explained his sometimes raspy voice as “a byproduct of following too close behind the mosquito control trucks” in his native Lubbock.

All Energies Tip of the Week
If you want to lower your energy costs, a tight well insulated home or business is the best investment you can make, to save energy and money. In the Big Bend Region consider a minimum of R30 in your roof and R19 in the Walls. Radiant Barriers between the outside and your insulation, will help in the summer to lower cooling costs. Large overhangs and porches will also reduce your cooling load. If you are building a masonry home, consider 24”+  thick walls or insulating one side of the wall. Well made double pane windows will also help, all year round. A well insulated home, will lower the size and cost of your solar system. If you need help making your solar system work better, email casey@allenergies.net or call/text 432-242-1874.

Meet Lovey!
Lovey is just over a year old and was surrendered to the Alpine Animal Shelter over two months ago. She’s a super sweet, very affectionate, 45-pound dog. She very much likes playing with other gentle dogs, but she’s not into rowdy play. She’s water crazy and would love romping around in Terlingua Creek or even a kiddie pool! Lovey is fully vaccinated, spayed and microchipped. You can meet her and many other wonderful pets in need of homes at the Alpine Animal Shelter. For more info about adoption, email admin@alpinehumanesociety.org. The Alpine Humane Society helps animals throughout Brewster County.
