BOB AND BARBARA WALES lived in Terlingua for a number of years. She was librarian at the school, and he was active in civic affairs. From his daughter Cecy Wales:
RIP Bob Wales August 24, 1940-January 17, 2017 (January 18 in Japan)
It is with a heavy heart that I say goodbye to my wonderful father. He was a kind, loving, fun man, always there to support his family and loved ones. He enjoyed his early career as a top disc jockey at KSBK/JORO Radio on Okinawa, and then his later career as an attorney in El Paso, Texas. He enjoyed life and making people laugh, loved his wife Barbara and his kids and family, loved American football and the Dallas Cowboys, and loved Hawaii. I am so grateful that Martin and I had precious time together with him and Barbara this past Christmas and New Year. After having a rough couple of years with various health issues, he is now at peace and with God. We will love and miss him forever. Thank you for being my wonderful daddy.

TEAM 11720
The Big Bend High School Purobots traveled to El Paso, TX, for a First Robotics Competition.  The Purobots are proud to announce that they earned a 4th place finish out of 17 teams, setting the tone for a new year.  In February, the Purobots will be attending the championship competition at UTEP. Team 11720 would like to thank their sponsors: Cottonwood Store, Rio Bravo, Sullivan Construction, Terlingua Ranch, the Jordan and Casey Reed family, and Lajitas Golf Resort for helping us reach our goals.
A free “YOUR HEART, YOUR LIFE” community health education series is being hosted by the Big Bend Valley Volunteer Fire Department (BBVVFD) at 5:00pm every Wednesday from January 11th through March 22nd 2017. The BBVVFD Fire Hall is located just east of Jackass Flats off Texas Highway 118 at 321 Legion Road.  For more information email info@bigbendvalleyvfd.org, logon to http://bbvvfd.us, or call Ember at 432-371-2080.

BEAR
Is a two year old lab/border collie mix with a gorgeous coat and plumey tail. He needs to be desensitized to a leash. He is approaching his 3rd month in the shelter and is looking for a special someone who will help him learn that he doesn’t need to be so scared. Leash-phobia aside, Bear is a friendly, fun-loving dog who loves to run, play and be with other dogs. He weighs ~40 pounds and appears housebroken. He was surrendered to the shelter as an outside dog. He either has had bad leash experiences or simply was never taken on a proper walk. Bear’s adoption fee includes consultation with a trainer about positive desensitization technique. For more information about Bear, or any dog in the Alpine Animal Shelter, please email heatherthemule@gmail.com
